Watford vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 7th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

With no disrespect towards Norwich this match could be the perfect one for Watford to pick up a huge 3 points in midweek.

The Hornets suffered a 3-0 loss to Chelsea at the weekend which further deepened their misery, and the chances for going down this season magnified. The club are in 17th place with just 1 point cushion from relegation. It’s possible with a win they could open up a 4 point gap to the bottom three depending on other results.

Watford have been poor since the restart losing 3 games and drawing one which was against Leicester. The latest problem is that they are conceding too many goals which is simply never a good sign. With recent defeats against Chelsea and Southampton they have shipped 6 goals in two games.

Almost 60% of their points have come at home though and they have managed to lose once in their last three games. The season could be a write off soon but no one in the club will forget when they stopped Liverpool’s unbeaten run here. So they are a team much more comfortable playing at home.

Norwich are not playing terrible football and yet they look set to go down. A latest loss against Brighton in a tight 1-0 score line means they have slipped 7 points from safety with just 15 remaining. Any club that has lost 22 games this season can’t really complain if they go down and the Canaries look like certainties now.

It’s no surprise to see that the club with the worst away record is…. Norwich, who have won just six points on the road. They have only scored 6 goals and have lost 12 of their 16 matches.

Team News:

Watford: The Hornets have no new injuries coming into this game

Norwich: Like Watford long term injuries are mounting up however the Canaries have no new injuries ahead of this game

Watford vs Norwich Head to Head:

Watford won the reverse fixture earlier in the season 2-0.

The clubs have not played at Vicarage Road since 2015 when Watford won 2-0.

From the last 5 meetings played at Watford, Norwich have 1 victory.

In the last 3 meetings Watford have picked up the most bookings.

Watford vs Norwich Prediction:

This should be a very interesting game because even though they need a miracle Norwich are not dead and buried, though this game could confirm it. The Canaries need to go for it, but they have been faced with quite a challenge. Watford are a better outfit than the last few games are suggesting but they will be in panic mode. They need to see this home game without fans still as a home game and get the job done. This is a game that could well go either way, but we will take the leap of faith on the home team to win their first game since the restart. The biggest concern if backing the home side is their lack of goals. They have scored 1 in the last 3 games and that was an own goal.
