Watford vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

Watford in 10th place will take on Newcastle in 15th but while there is 5 places separating the teams the gap is 10 points.

The Hornets could go as high as 7th with a win depending on other results around them and would reach the 30 point mark. They lost their last game at home to Chelsea by 2-1 but that was their first defeat since since the beginning of the month.

At home the problem has been that the club have won just half of their games and they come into this one having been defeated in 3 of their last 4 matches here. Although we could discount those losses given that they came against Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Newcastle have won just 1 game in their past four and there has been more reports that manager Rafa Benitez is less than happy about owner Mike Ashley. One wonders what a former coach of Real Madrid and Liverpool is doing at Newcastle at this period in the club’s history?

The Magpies are at least 5 points clear of the drop and if they can get a couple of wins together that would quell talk of relegation. Away from home their 4-0 loss against Liverpool stopped a good run which had extended to the previous four games.

Team News:

Watford: Younes Kaboul’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent and he will no longer play for the club. Will Hughes may be assessed with his hip injury. Christian Kabasele has a shoulder injury but is expected to be fit for this game.

Newcastle: Ki Sung-Yeung is on international duty in the Asian Cup. Karl Darlow and Ciaran Clarke look likely to miss out with an arm and ankle injury respectively

Watford vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Watford won 2-1 the last time the teams played here.

Newcastle have not won here since 2010.

3 of the last 4 games played here have ended in over 2.5 goals.

Watford vs Newcastle Prediction:

Benitez is not happy and feels frustrated, this could and probably will filter down to his players and we expect Watford to get the win here. Both teams have had good moments during the season, but Watford have been solid at times at home and if they can feed off of the negativity around the visitors they should be able to take advantage.
