England Premier League
Saturday 11th July 2020
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road
Match Preview:
Watford alongside West Ham could still get sucked into the relegation battle and at home they will be determined to win this game. The Hornets finally won their first game since the restart when they beat bottom placed Norwich by 2-1. That has pulled them up on 31 points and they are currently 4 points clear of 18th placed Aston Villa.
At home the club have suffered this season and only won 5 of their games, that is the main difference between this season and the last, some could also point out that influential captain Troy Deeney has missed some crucial games.
Watford have won just 2 games from their last 10 and so the odds may be stacked against them here, but this could be a close game.
Newcastle lost their first game since the restart after being outclassed by Manchester City, losing the game 5-0. There isn’t much you can do when that happens and Steve Bruce and the team should have no trouble moving on from it. However the defeat has put a blow to the Magpies’ European hopes as they come into this game in 13th place with 43 points.
The Magpies would be 12th on away form and have lost 10 games on the road they have also conceded on average 2 goals per game.
Team News:
Watford: No new injuries to report.
Newcastle: Newcastle have a few injuries, with Sean Longstaff and Andy Carroll both out. Lascelles is also a doubt for this game.
Watford vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 1-1.
Last season this fixture ended 1-1.
In the league Watford have not won a game in the last 3 meetings.
Newcastle have not won at Watford since 2010.
There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.
Watford vs Newcastle Prediction:
Newcastle have done well this season but we think they will miss out on Europe and that Watford could get a win. The Hornets may have just picked up a second wind finally winning a game and now being back at home even without the fans they will give this a big effort. The team still has an abundance of big characters.
Newcastle have picked up some injuries, so check the team news before committing yourself here but we expect that they might be a tad tired, they have put in a solid display since June. This game could be anyone’s on any given day such are the teams but we think Watford will just have enough and Newcastle have a dreadful record here. Danny Welbeck is looking sharp also, and could be worth backing for a goal.
