England Premier League
Saturday 20th June 2020
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road
Match Preview:
The first Saturday game of football in the Premier League for over 3 months will be the lunch time kick off between Watford and Leicester.
The Hornets have it all to play for given that only goal difference separates them from the bottom three. Just before football was stopped the club were on a bad run that featured just one win in five games and yet you couldn’t make it up as that one victory was over Liverpool, their only loss so far this season and the clubs first league loss in over a year.
Apart from the current bottom three there are another three clubs that need to look over their shoulder and are far from out of the woods and that includes Brighton, West Ham and Watford. Nigel Pearson’s side has won 3 of their last five games at home, which is encouraging given that the whole season their win count at home has been 4. Pearson’s arrival has really improved the team and of course he has managed the visitors.
And those visitors are Leicester who proudly sit in 3rd place. The Foxes played the last league game before the pandemic hit and it was an emphatic 4-0 victory over Aston Villa. Indeed that win was much needed at the time and ended a 4 game run of games without victory.
Whilst finishing 2nd looks out of Leicester’s depth given that they are 7 points behind Manchester City, the job will be to maintain 3rd place over Chelsea and they hold a 5 point lead over the Blues.
Brendan Rodgers side have not won away from home in their last 3 games however overall they have a decent win rate winning 50% of away games so far this season.
Team News:
Watford: Gerard Deulofeu still has his knee injury and with no update it looks very likely that the Spanish international will miss the rest of the season. Daryl Janmaat was making progress with his knee but has suffered a setback and won’t feature.
Leicester: Ayoze Perez has a muscle injury which is thought to be minor and he is only 50/50 to make this game
Watford vs Leicester Head to Head:
Leicester beat Watford 2-0 earlier in the season in the reverse fixture.
Last season Watford won the match 2-1 when they were at home.
In 9 Premier League games Leicester have never failed to score against Watford.
In the last 11 games to take place at Watford, Leicester have won just two times.
Watford vs Leicester Prediction:
The bonus for both teams is that they come into this match with minimal injuries. When the league was stopped it looked like Leicester were turning a corner after their recent slump and it is difficult now to predict how the club will react. It is key for them to score first and early as that may put the cat amongst the pigeons and worry Watford who really need all three points.
Leicester are an impressive team and have been brilliant under Brendan Rodgers but perhaps Watford won’t be easy to roll over given that the Foxes have struggled at this ground in the past. Both sets of players will be happy to play some football, and that's why we think both teams are likely to get on the scoresheet. Also, Jamie Vardy is good odds to get a goal.
Watford vs Leicester Betting Tips:
Both teams to score at 1.75
Anytime goalscorer: Jamie Vardy at 2.20
