Watford vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th January 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

Take out the so called elite clubs and that would leave Watford in theory as the best team in the Premier League in 7th place so far. While the club have had their ups and downs they are on decent form and will feel they can beat teams below them at home.

The Hornets come into this game undefeated in their last 3 games and last weekend they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 away from home. The gap to 6th is 9 points and they have a succession of teams ready to pass them with the likes of Leicester, West Ham, Everton and Wolves within 3 points.

At home Watford have won 5 matches but more tellingly they have also lost 5. Indeed they have only won 1 game at home in their last five attempts which is not a good return.

Burnley’s 5-1 loss at home to Everton a few weeks ago seems to have awoken them up. Since then they have won 3 games in a row and a side who have been poor to average all season and are in 15th place would be in 7th on form.

Sean Dyche’s team have pulled 3 points clear of the bottom three and could displace Crystal Palace with a win here and give their Premier League status a major boost.

Team News:

Watford: Will Hughes is set to miss this match after suffereing concussion. Hughes is the only new injury problem for the club

Burnley: Robert Brady is suspended after his sending off, this is the last game he will miss before his return. Gudmundsson will face a late fitness test but is 50/50 to make this game. Aaron Lennon is still out with a knee injury but is expected back sometime this month

Watford vs Burnley Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Watford won the reverse fixture 3-1.

Last season Burnley won at Watford 2-1, that was Burnley’s first win at Vicarage Road since 2011.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Watford vs Burnley Prediction:

We’re backing Watford to get back on track at home and start winning more games at home. Burnely are in good form but they are facing a very decent side who like to attack and will see plenty of the ball and this could be a tough afternoon for Dyche’s team. That doesn’t mean that Burnley won’t be able to bounce back in the coming weeks, but Watford themselves have to push on because 7th could easily turn into the bottom half of the league by the end of the month, it’s that tight right now in the league.
