England Premier League
Saturday 12th February 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road
Match Preview:
Watford are one of the favourites to be relegated so they will need to be more confident and aggressive at home in order to stay up this season. The club return back home after spending their last two games playing away.
The Hornets remain close to the bottom but already under the much experienced Roy Hodgson we have seen some improvements in defence. Pundits have quite rightly pointed out that Hodgson’s game plan will be negative, in that the club will set up very defensively and rarely attack unless a good opportunity presents itself. They have 48 points left on the board so time is on their side but of course their rivals are ready to.
The catch to all of this is that Watford have the worst home record in the Premier League. They have lost 8 times at home and from a possible 33 points they have only won 7. Their poor home form has seen the club without any points from their last 5 games and they are conceding on average 2 goals per game at home.
Brighton will still be reeling from their recent FA Cup exit at the hands of Tottenham. However the club are in the top 10 and will have aspirations to finish in a European place. Form has been good to average because the club are not losing many games recently but they aren’t winning either and they have drawn 12 games already this season, that is easily the most in the league.
Team News:
Watford: Robert Elliot could miss out with a knock and will be assessed. Ismaila Sarr is being tipped to return after international duty. Nicolas N’Koulou is out until April with his hamstring.
Brighton: Leandro Trossard will be assessed after illness and is 50/50 to make this game. Jeremy Sarimento is out until May with a hamstring injury. Alexis MacAllister will be assessed after illness.
Watford vs Brighton Head to Head:
The last time the two teams played here was in 2019 and Brighton won 3-0.
It’s been five games since Watford tasted victory over Brighton back in 2018 when they won 2-0 at home.
There is a 90% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 2-0.
Watford vs Brighton Prediction:
It’s another away game for Brighton and an interesting fact is that Graham Potter’s side have only lost once so far on the road. But their results are disjointed and from 11 games played they have drawn seven.
This will be a close game and even history suggests that with a recent 90% statistic to see fewer than 3 goals. At the end of the day Brighton have had some very good results against Watford recently and we don’t see that changing at the weekend. Potter’s team would be challenging for a top 4 place had they not drawn so many games, and they have the quality here to get the job done.
Watford will battle and this is a game that will be won in the midfield one suspects but are tip will be to see the away team narrowly winning this game.
