England Premier League
Saturday 28th December 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road
Match Preview:
Watford are improving under new manager Nigel Pearson, there is a sense of belief and light at the end of the tunnel and the club on the 3rd managerial attempt this season may just have got it right.
Following the clubs amazing 2-0 win against Manchester United, Watford went to the in form Sheffield United and came away with a draw and are no longer bottom of the league. The Hornets have climbed up to 19th place, though there is still a gap of 6 points for safety, but having Pearson in charge is clearly giving the club a chance.
It’s incredible to think that one third of Watford’s total points have been earned in their last two games and with them returning home and facing a newly promoted side the players will be up for this one.
Aston Villa come into this game in 18th place and therefore are a direct rival to Watford. Villa could go 8 points clear of their hosts with a win or Watford could peg them back to just a 2 point gap if they win. On Boxing Day Villa stopped a 4 game losing streak by beating Norwich which sent Norwich bottom of the league.
Villa have the worst away form in the league, from 9 matches they have earned just 4 points and won 1 game all season. They have lost 4 of their last 5 matches on the road with their last game ending in a 2-0 loss against Sheffield United. They are conceding on average over 2 goals per game.
Team News:
Watford: Ismaila Sarr has a head injury after a clash of heads. It is thought to be minor and there is a possibility he could make this match, then again he may have to miss it as precaution, he is the only new concern for the club
Aston Villa: Tyrone Mings is back in training after his hamstring injury and is 50/50 to make this game, a late decision will be made
Watford vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
The teams have not played here since 2016 when Watford won 3-2.
The last two meetings have ended in the same score line of 3-2.
The clubs have met each other just 4 times in the last 15 years with 2 victories for Watford, 1 for Aston Villa and one draw.
The last 3 meetings have seen more goals in the 2nd half.
Watford vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Watford will be kicking themselves if they fail to pick up points in this game. Returning home where they have just beaten Manchester United, here they have the tools and confidence to win this game. They need to keep on the coat tails of Villa, and if they lose or even draw this match then their recent efforts would have been for nothing. This is a situation that Nigel Pearson will need to get over to his team, but he has a team that seem to fully believe in him and he should have no problems getting that message across. Villa’s away form is very poor and we think Watford can take advantage of that and get the win..
Watford vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
