Watford vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 14th August 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

Watford are back in the Premier League and they have bounced back immediately and will be determined to prop up the table as soon as they can. They open their account at home and with returning fans they will hope that will be to their advantage.

The Hornets lost 3 of their 9 pre-season games and perhaps the worrying sign was that the defeats were all against Premier League opposition. Watford have brought in some Premier League experience in the likes of Joshua King from Everton and Danny Rose from Tottenham as they hope to remain in the top flight, in what could be a tough and long season for them.

The big news surrounding Aston Villa was that they sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City and simply could not hang on to the England international who went for a cool £100m. However Villa do remain ambitious and have spent nearly £90m on players including Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for £33m, Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen for £30m and Danny Ings from Southampton for £25m. These buys should assure a solid season for Villa who two seasons ago looked like they were going to be relegated but bounced back well last season to have a good showing. John Terry has also left the set up at Villa as he tries to become a full time manager.

Team News:

Watford: Joao Pedro has a knee injury which will see him miss the beginning of the season.

Aston Villa: Keinan Davis has a knock and is a major doubt for this fixture. Morgan Sanson is out with his knee from last season as is Trezeguet. Ollie Watkins has a muscle injury and will be assessed.

Watford vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

The teams have only played each other 21 times.

The last time they played this fixture Watford won 3-0 back in 2019.

Watford have won 3 of the last four meetings.

Watford vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Some names have come in at Villa and perhaps those players will need time to gel, although they did win their last two pre-season games, both times scoring 3 goals, so maybe they will gel sooner rather than later.

Watford have not looked good in pre-season but with fans back, at home, there should be quite a buzzing atmosphere here and the club can cause Villa a lot of problems. We do think the quality lies with the away side though and feel they should be able to come away with at least a point from this game. It also wouldn't surprise us to see a few goals in this match.

Watford vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
