Watford vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

With 12 games left to play Roy Hodgson’s Watford are running out of time to save their season and this game against opponents as strong as Arsenal will be incredibly tough for the Hornets to navigate.

Currently Watford are going down and are in 19th place with 19 points, it is a position they will stay in if Burnley have won on Saturday even if they win this game. This is the reality for the club that they have got themselves in such a hole that even victory against Arsenal is only climbing up the first step of a ladder again. Of course it would still be a huge win for the club. Form wise Hodgson’s side have not been good with just one win in their past five, although it’s one defeat in their last three they would rather be concentrating on.

Watford’s form is interesting though because they followed up a 4-1 beating at home to Crystal Palace to go to Old Trafford and draw 0-0 with Manchester United. It was a huge point for the club and keeping a clean sheet against United away, well nobody would have seen that coming, it was only the clubs 4th draw of the season so far too.

Arsenal are in prime position to take 4th place as the league stands. It would be quite an improvement for the Gunners who have finished in 8th place for two seasons in a row. Presently Arsenal are in 6th place but are only 2 points shy of Manchester United in 4th and they have 3 games in hand over them. Arsenal are also in very good form and have won their last 3 games. Arteta’s side have not lost a game since the beginning of the year.

On the road for Arsenal it hasn’t all been good news with five wins but also 5 defeats but latest form has been electric with 3 straight wins. The one worry for the club has been the lack of goals away from home and 16 is a low figure.

Team News:

Watford: Ismaila Sarr is out for an extended time due to a new hamstring injury. Samuel Kalu has an ankle injury but will be assessed ahead of the game. Nicolas N’Koulou is not due back until next week after his hamstring injury. William Troost-Ekong is ruled out with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss the rest of the month.

Arsenal: The only concern for the club is Tomiyasu Takehiro who has a calf injury and is touch and go to be ready for this match.

Watford vs Arsenal Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was in 2019 and the game finished 2-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Arsenal beat Watford 1-0.

Watford have not beaten Arsenal since 2017.

Arsenal have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the sides.

Watford vs Arsenal Prediction:

When you’re fighting a relegation fight you can’t lose one of your goalscorers but that is what has happened to Watford with the huge blow of Ismaila Sarr’s injury. Sarr had already missed a chunk of the season and just before he had found form and was scoring goals, so this is a blow for them no doubt.

Arsenal have the better squad of players and are in very good form and come here very confident. They have a target in mind and we don’t see the Gunners slipping on a banana skin here. Their away form has been suspect for many years now but they have recently smashed Norwich and Leeds away from home and they could well get a few against Watford who are clearly not considered one of the better teams in the league.

As expected Arsenal are 1.57 to win the game and that might be too short for some punters, but they can get off to a good start here and the half time value might be a better option. Another telling point here is the amount of injuries that are stacking up for Watford and then you look at Arsenal and they are 99% injury free that should count in the end. Expect to see a very defensive line from the home team as Arsenal will spend much of it trying to break them down.

Watford vs Arsenal Betting Tips:

Arsenal to beat Watford at 1.57

Anytime goalscorer: Alexandre Lacazette at 2.10

Arsenal to win 2-0 or 3-0 at 7.00 and 11.00
