England Premier League
Saturday 20th August 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
It’s been a strong and bullish start from Tottenham who are hoping to record a very successful and memorable season and there is certainly a lot of belief within the camp. That belief was emphasised as Tottenham came away from Stamford Bridge with a draw after twice being behind. Harry Kane’s 96th minute equaliser for the club felt like a win and getting a point away to Chelsea is a great result for Spurs.
The last time Antonio Conte’s team were at home they beat Southampton 4-1 and they will be the favourites to get their second win of the season when they take on Wolves. What better motivation to go top of the Premier League, and given that Tottenham play the lunch time game victory would mean just that.
Wolves have splashed the cash this summer and reports suggest that they will sign Matheus Nunes from Portuguese side Sporting for £38m, Nunes is an attacking midfielder and his transfer would be a record buy for the club. Bruno Lage’s side are looking for their first win of the season after losing against Leeds on the opening weekend and then drawing 0-0 at home to Fulham, which was seen as a disappointing result. However Fulham missed a penalty in that game. It wouldn’t feel like a huge surprise if Wolves lost this game too, and there will be some worried faces in the stands as to how the club have started the season so far.
Team News:
Tottenham: Clement Lenglet is a doubt to be ready for this game with a muscle injury. Oliver Skipp is out with a foot injury but could return next week.
Wolves: Raul Jimenez has a knee injury and is about 3 weeks away from a return. Joao Moutinho has a foot injury with no fixed return date and Chiquinho is out long term with a knee injury.
Tottenham vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham lost this fixture 2-0.
Tottenham have won 3 of the last four meetings.
There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.
Tottenham vs Wolves Prediction:
Wolves have got off to a shaky start and the main worry is that the team are lacking goals. It is also a worry to draw and not score at home to any newly promoted side. Clearly one of Wolves problems has been up front, Raul Jimenez has done such a good job for the club to score goals and obviously he is out injured and Wolves might be suffering from a lack of confidence. However perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel and that comes down to the fact that the club have enjoyed much success playing away to Tottenham in recent years. This is something that Lage should remind the team.
You get the feeling that Wolves will be the counter attacking side here and will have to remain focused as they sap up wave after wave of attack. Tottenham come into this game very confident and Harry Kane will be delighted to have scored last weekend and get off the mark. Coming forward with Heung Min-Son and now Richarlison Tottenham are a big threat, they have scored five more goals than their opponents already and faced tougher opposition and not many clubs will be coming to Tottenham and winning games.
However backing the home side for the win isn’t really on the cards and we don’t like the 1.30 price being quoted given that Wolves have performed so well here in the past. However we can increase the odds at no extra risk using a "-1 asian handicap" which could be the best way to go. Tottenham have always played to their strengths at home. We shouldn’t read too much into the fact that manager Antonio Conte won’t be on the touchline as he got a red card against Chelsea, Tottenham just look a very slick and detailed outfit and we expect them to start well and carry that over to the second half. It would feel like a surprise if Wolves came away with anything here, but Lage’s side will get better as the season goes on one suspects.
Tottenham vs Wolves Betting Tips:
