England Premier League
Tuesday 23rd June 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
Tottenham will get another bite at the cherry given that they are at home again after drawing 1-1 against Manchester United last Friday evening.
They will play London rivals West Ham in what would have been a sold out match. Jose Mourinho will be encouraged with some of the things he saw from his team against Manchester United but it could have been a game where another 3 points would have slipped away from the Londoners despite taking the lead.
Mourinho has a good record over West Ham and 3 points are needed here or there could well be a sense that Tottenham are slipping away. They are in 8th place with 42 points and a European finish could be off the cards with a loss here, that is how quickly football moves. To compound matters even further a lot of teams around Tottenham are closely bunched up, and the club need to put a 3-4 game winning run together.
West Ham looked dreadful at home against Wolves as they were eventually overpowered 2-0 by Nuno Espirito Santos’ team. The Hammers only managed 2 shots on target and that is worrying for manager David Moyes.
Gaps are starting to appear in the league for West Ham with only Watford above them close by, they are in 17th but only on goal difference. The club have picked up just 3 points from their last 15 and the signs look bleak for the away side.
Team News:
Tottenham: Lucas Moura missed the Manchester United game through a last minute knock in training but is tipped to return for this game. He is the only latest injury concern for the club.
West Ham: Sebastien Haller must like Moura also missed the game at the weekend due to a last minute knock. He will be assessed for this game. Angelo Ogbonna could return after a minor knock
Tottenham vs West Ham Head to Head:
Tottenham beat West Ham in the reverse fixture earlier in the season 3-2 and that was also Jose Mourinho’s first game as Tottenham manager.
Tottenham have failed to win their last 2 league games at home against West Ham.
4 of the last 9 meetings have ended with the correct score of 3-2 ( 3 times for Tottenham and once for West Ham).
Michail Antonio has scored in the last 2 games v Tottenham.
Tottenham vs West Ham Prediction:
Tottenham have the better team but being this is a London derby West Ham have had their moments against them, much like a thorn in their side and have come here in the past and got surprise results. We should see a much improved performance from Moyes’ team who will hopefully welcome the return of striker Sebastien Haller and test out Tottenham’s defence, one that has conceded 41 times this season.
The home side must attack and put the pressure on the Hammers from the get go. If Tottenham are on the ball from the first whistle and get an early goal we can’t see West Ham coming back from that.
