Tottenham vs Southampton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 9th February 2022
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham come into this midweek game in seventh place but are only 2 points behind 4th placed Manchester United and have 2 games in hand and Antonio Conte’s team should be seen presently as the favourites for that final Champions League place.

The club seem very positive and determined under Conte and they have lost just 1 game in the league since the Italian took charge back in November. That defeat was the clubs last game when they were defeated 2-0 by Chelsea but they remain undefeated in the league at home. Tottenham could go into 4th place depending on other results but would climb past Arsenal with victory here. Home form is very good and the club have won 70% of their matches here, their last game finished in a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The Chelsea defeat can be behind the club now though, and at least they have tasted victory again before this game. Conte’s team beat fellow Premier League side Brighton 3-1.

Southampton are in 12th place and their last game finished in an impressive 1-1 draw against Manchester City. Form has been patchy for the Saints with 8 points won from their last 15 but the club are punching above their weight and with 25 points so far they look like they won’t be involved in a relegation battle this season. Away form is not so good for the Saints who have won just twice so far and their last away game finished in a 3-1 defeat against Wolves. In the FA Cup at the weekend the club were able to overcome Coventry and win 2-1 after extra time.

Team News:

Tottenham: Eric Dier has a thigh injury but will be assessed ahead of the game. Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga are only 50/50 to be ready for this game after their respective groin and knee injuries.

Southampton: Nathan Tella is a major doubt with an injury to his groin. Alex McCarthy remains out with his hamstring, Lyanco is out with the same problem. Armando Broja will be assessed because of his knee injury and remains touch and go to be ready for this clash.

Tottenham vs Southampton Head to Head:

Last season Tottenham won this fixture 2-1.

It’s been 6 games since Southampton have managed to beat Tottenham and they haven’t beaten the club away from home for almost six years.

The last five meetings in a row have seen both teams to score.

Tottenham vs Southampton Prediction:

Southampton are a team who have to work very hard just to try and be stable in mid table and the club will be safe this season and that has to be a success story for them. They will come here as underdogs and not many will be expecting a surprise result. The Saints are performing better at home against the so called big six but on the road it is a different story.

Tottenham are looking very strong and especially at home we don’t expect they will be losing many games now until the end of the season. Harry Kane is scoring goals again and when he scores not only do the team seem to win but just having Kane back on form clearly raises them too.

We will back Tottenham to get all three points in this game, and we will also back Harry Kane to get on the scoresheet again.

Tottenham vs Southampton Betting Tips:

Tottenham to win at 1.60

Anytime goalscorer (Harry Kane) at 1.66
