Match Preview:
This has not been a good week for Tottenham who have been dumped out of the Champions League by AC Milan and it’s now been 15 years since the club won a trophy. It gets worse because manager Antonio Conte has been leaving crypic clues that he won’t be hanging around much longer- his contract expires in the summer anyway but it’s very possible that he could be sacked soon.
The defeat to AC Milan also confirms that Harry Kane’s wait for his first trophy will go on for another year and the forward is being linked with a move away to Manchester United. The defeat against the Italians has been seen as a poor one for Tottenham who lost the first leg 1-0 in Italy and could only draw 0-0 in the return leg. Poor because this isn’t a vintage Milan side and Tottenham were being tipped to advance in the competition. Now in March Tottenham’s objective is to finish in the top four and that is by no means guaranteed with the form that Liverpool have been showing and there is a threat from Newcastle too.
In the league Tottenham are fourth with 45 points and three clear of 5th placed Liverpool however the Reds have a game in hand. Manchester United who are in 3rd place are four points ahead of Tottenham and also have a game in hand, so trying to finish even higher for Conte’s side doesn’t really look on the cards. Tottenham were defeated in their last game losing 1-0 away to Wolves but in general there has been some positive results with victories over Chelsea and West Ham.
Nottingham Forest are not out of the woods but of the teams down there they currently look like having the firepower to be safe. They come into this weekend in 14th place with 26 points and any points here would be a huge for them. There is a worry though and that is they haven’t managed to win in 4 games with two draws and two defeats and last weekend they drew 2-2 with Everton. This was a decent result given that they were trailing twice in that game. Away from home Forest have really come undone so far and just six of their 26 points have come this way, indeed they have the poorest away record in the league.
Team News:
Tottenham: Emerson Royal will be assessed after a recent knock but is being tipped to be fine. Hugo Lloris is still out for at least another 3 weeks with his knee. Ivan Perisic has a knock and will be assessed. Ryan Sessegnon remains out with a hamstring injury and isn’t due back for three weeks. Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are out long term.
Nottingham Forest: Dean Henderson remains sidelined with a thigh injury and isn’t due back until the beginning of April. Cheikou Kouyate could feature but has fitness issues and will have to be assessed, it is the same situation for Moussa Niakhate. Scott McKenna is 3 weeks away with his hamstring.
Tottenham vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played at Tottenham they were in the old stadium and that was in 2014 in the League Cup which Tottenham won 3-1.
The teams have already met two times this season in the reverse league fixture which finished 2-0 to Tottenham and the EFL Cup which Nottingham Forest won 2-0.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Tottenham vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
Tottenham are not in a good way and to add to their misery Richarlison has had enough and spoke of his frustrations at not getting game time. Will Conte react in a positive or negative way? There are all these problems for Tottenham but they still have a quality side and a decent home record and should be winning this game.
Forest will look at all of the negative press and try to unhinge Tottenham after a poor week and we think that Forest can have an impact at times and score and we expect this one to be entertaining and end to end, but surely Tottenham even with all the chaos that has surrounded them will be able to beat the worst away team in the league?
