England Premier League
Sunday 23rd October 2022
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
Tottenham have been brilliant at times this season and the feeling is they are in the right hands with Antonio Conte if they want to reach the next level. And yet when some of the big tests have come up Tottenham have been left wanting. They recently lost the derby against Arsenal and then in midweek were beaten by Manchester United 2-0. True both games were away from home but that won’t stop suggestions that the club are good but just not good enough to challenge for the title, and that seems to have been the script for Tottenham for many years.
Another test awaits Conte’s side as Newcastle have vastly improved, though at home Tottenham will be expected to get the three points. As it stands the club are in 3rd place with 23 points and they do have the same points as 2nd placed Manchester City, however they have also played a game more. It’s two defeats in their last four games but they have won 7 of their opening 11 games so far. At home is where Tottenham have really shone though and they are unbeaten and have a 100% record so far. They have scored 8 goals in their last two games and their latest win was against Everton which ended 2-0.
Newcastle have only lost one game so far and are in form having won 3 of their last four. In midweek they beat Everton 1-0 and have recently gone to Manchester United and got a 0-0 result. They have become a very tough side to beat and even though they have had money injected into them, they are a team not full of superstars so a lot of credit has to go to manager Eddie Howe and his staff who are doing a terrific job. The Magpies come into this weekend in 6th place and have 18 points and away form has been average, let down more by draws, 3 from five games so far. They have won just once so far and that was a 4-1 battering of hapless Fulham.

The last 3 meetings in a row have seen over 3.5 goals.
Tottenham vs Newcastle Prediction:
We started off this preview by talking about Tottenham and tests, but in reality it should be switched and despite Newcastle’s positive start to the season this is a big test for them. Manager Howe will still be hurting from losing 5-1 here last season and if they were to come away with anything that would be highly impressive. The bottom line for the Magpies is that injuries are building up now and it has to be a concern for the club. They can rectify that in January of course but that won’t help now. How can a side deal with so many key players out and remain consistent in the league? One would be led to believe that Howe cannot wait until the league breaks up for the World Cup at this rate.
We will be backing Tottenham to bounce back and win a game that could feature a few goals and certainly end to end entertainment. Newcastle will not show any fear but at the same time need to remain focused. Tottenham have to respect how Newcastle have started the season but being at home has been a strong point of Tottenham’s season and we see their winning run in front of their own fans continuing.
