Tottenham vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd April 2022
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham are one of the most in form sides in the Premier League and they probably didn’t want the international break to come. Antonio Conte’s team have won 4 of their last five games as they try to finish in 4th place.

Currently the club are 3 points behind 4th placed Arsenal and played a game more so they can’t afford to drop any points in this game. Tottenham are scoring goals and have put a total of five past their last two opponents Brighton and West Ham, and indeed Tottenham’s last home victory came against the Hammers in a 3-1 win. The club have won 9 of their 14 games at home and have the 4th best record in the league. If Manchester United have won on the Saturday then Tottenham would come into this game in 6th place.

Newcastle have been brilliant since January but the Magpies go to London having lost their last two games. Both have been very narrow, losing 1-0 at Chelsea and then 1-0 at Everton and one could say that it is unfortunate that Eddie Howe’s side have had to play 3 games in a row away from home. The club have pulled 9 points clear of the bottom three and do look safe although they would welcome another 3 points just to be sure. They could move into 13th place if Brighton have failed to win their game on Saturday.

On the road Newcastle could do better and have lost 8 times from 15 games and that includes their last two but overall form has certainly improved since the beginning of the year although with only 12 goals scored away only two teams have scored fewer.

Team News:

Tottenham: Ryan Sessegnon is a major doubt to return for this game even though he has made progress with his hamstring but he should be back next week. Oliver Skipp is out with his groin injury but should return next week. Japhet Tanganga has been ruled out for the rest of the season with his knee injury.

Newcastle: Martin Dubravka is ill but is being tipped to recover in time and will at least be assessed. Fabian Schar is being tipped to recover from a recent muscle injury. Kieran Trippier has a foot injury but may return in the next 7-10 days. Callum Wilson is making good progress with his calf injury but is still four weeks away from a return.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

The last 4 meetings in a row have seen both teams to score.

Newcastle have won just 1 game from the past 9 meetings.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Prediction:

Expect to see a good flowing game with goals. Since Harry Kane and Heung Min-Son have found their goalscoring boots again Tottenham have livened up and at home they will be expected to get all three points. The motivation for victory is all on Tottenham as Newcastle have very little to play for. Are Newcastle safe? That is the question but surely they are 90% of the way there now and with the games they have left to play one would think that two wins at least are there for the taking.

But for Tottenham defeat here or even a draw just hands the advantage to Arsenal and Manchester United and 4th place would be all but gone. Tottenham have a good recent record over Newcastle and they will be made to work hard for the win and probably will concede but if they can control midfield they can wrestle the game from Newcastle who could lose this game without affecting their season too much, and that is the key here.
