Tottenham vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Ange Postecoglou has had quite a week. First he witnessed Tottenham’s best player Harry Kane leave for Bayern Munich and then his new side drew 2-2 at Brentford but at least they came back from a losing position. For the majority of fans this will be their first time seeing Postecoglou in the dugout and what a first home game to have to navigate when they entertain Manchester United.

Tottenham even without Kane will have goals in them and of course one would expect them to dip into the transfer market again. However if they get it wrong they have to contend with the fact that Kane got them 30 goals in the league last season, minus his contribution and there are genuine worries to be had at the club. Certainly Son will have to up his game from last season but Richarlison could become a regular starter now which was always his goal.

Manchester United started the campaign with a win, but it was a nervy one and for most observers not justified. They claimed a 1-0 victory over Wolves but did not play well and then late on a stone wall penalty was rejected by VAR and United got lucky, how long can they ride their luck? United will be away to a quality side and on their day this represents a tricky fixture for Erik ten Hag’s side. At the same time United have enough quality to present a genuine threat to Tottenham also and we should be in for an entertaining game.

Team News:

Tottenham: Cristian Romero could miss out due to a head injury and will be assessed. Bryan Gil has a groin injury and is out, Fraser Forster has a back injury and is sidelined. Ryan Sessegnon is out with his hamstring and Rodrigo Bentancur is not due back until November due to a long term knee injury.

Manchester United: Tyrell Malacia remains out due to a knock, Rasmus Hojlund is out with his back. Tom Heaton remains sidelined with a calf injury and Amad Diallo has a knee injury but is recovering and could return next week.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season the clubs drew 2-2 in this fixture.

It’s been six games since Tottenham were able to beat Manchester United and they haven’t beaten United at home in 5 years.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Prediction:

This is a game that has goals in it and in general the games have been full of them and incidents. We would have to go back 9 years to see the last 0-0 and yet perhaps this game may see few goals. Witness Tottenham, their first game at home this season, they will do everything not to lose the game, but is the best strategy in this fixture attack? Or simply is it to maintain a way to play without losing? For example, is a draw really an undesirable result? Tottenham are going to find themselves and take more risks as the season progresses but they need to adjust to life without Kane’s goals.

Manchester United need to put in a much better performance and they have had the better of results against Tottenham in recent years. This is an interesting fixture and we think the value here is on the home side as we are able to back the win or draw, which is not often possible for a quality side playing at home.
