England Premier League
Sunday 15th August 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
Arguably the game of the weekend in the Premier League will be between Tottenham and Manchester City which aptly will wrap up the opening weekend of the new campaign.
Harry Kane has overshadowed the fixture given that Tottenham’s prized asset has requested to leave the club for…. Manchester City, how wonderful when the footballing Gods play their part in their timing.
For now Kane is a Tottenham player, but he is a player that is perhaps dragging his feet at this time and it is clear he doesn’t want to play for Tottenham now. By the end of the month surely he will be a Manchester City player, time waits for no man and time is running out for Kane to win trophies in his career. City seems like the best destination for that and the champions have reportedly bid £150m for the player. But what will Nuno Espirito Santo do? Will be pick a fit Kane or simply not play him against City? The problem will be the discontent by a packed out stadium, and it looks more certain that Kane will not play, we will have to wait and see.
Tottenham have spent money on just one player so far and that is Bryan Gil for £21m from Sevilla they have also lost Eric Lamela who went the other way. Tottenham played well in their pre-season friendlies and remained undefeated and that included drawing 2-2 with Chelsea and beating bitter rivals Arsenal 1-0.
Manchester City are the favourites to retain their league title and they look good to do so. They have brought in Jack Grealish for a cool £100m from Aston Villa, so that will have City fans excited again. Sergio Aguero left the club for Barcelona at the end of the season and City are still looking for a striker, which hopefully for them, will end up being Harry Kane.
Team News:
Tottenham: Harry Kane and Bryan Gil are doubts over fitness issues.
Manchester City: Phil Foden is out with a foot injury and won’t be back for at least 3 weeks. Kevin De Bruyne is recovering from a foot injury he has a small chance to make this game but probably will not be risked.
Tottenham vs Man City Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham won this fixture 2-0.
The last time the clubs met each other was in last season’s Carabao Cup final which Manchester City won 1-0.
Tottenham have won the last 2 Premier League games at home to Manchester City.
3 of the last four meetings have finished in under 2.5 goals.
Tottenham vs Man City Prediction:
Tottenham have done well in pre-season and that will give some of the players confidence. They do however face an incredibly difficult opponent who will want to get off to a great start as defending champions. We expect this game to be one of two halves and Tottenham should be able to start well with their fans back in attendance.
City can impose themselves as the game goes on and we expect an end to end match with perhaps tactics taking a side step in this opening match. Goals should flow and City should have too much in the end for Tottenham who are perhaps missing 3-4 quality players that simply haven’t arrived at the club. A lot does hinge on whether Kane will play or not, but one could assume whatever the score the headlines will all be about Kane come the end of the game.
