Tottenham vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

The weekend’s games will wrap up with a mighty clash in London as Tottenham will take on Liverpool. Tottenham recorded a fantastic victory in their final Champions League group game away to Marseille winning 2-1 and qualifying for the knock out stages. At one point they were losing that game and would have crashed out of the competition so that win in France would have been a huge morale boost ahead of this game. Last weekend Antonio Conte’s side were involved in another comeback win as they beat Bournemouth 3-2 after trailing 2-0, things at Tottenham certainly haven’t been dull.

Tottenham come into this weekend in 3rd place with 26 points and are 5 points behind Arsenal although they have played a game more. The win over Bournemouth was important as they went into that game having lost their last two. At home Conte’s side have been impressive with 5 wins from six games although they did lose their last game here against Newcastle. Tottenham cannot go higher this weekend but they have the threat of slipping to fourth.

Liverpool are the Jekyll and Hyde club of the league so far. Form has been poor and yet in the Champions League they have just beaten one of the best form sides in the competition in Napoli who in turn lost their first game of the season. In Europe the Reds have no problems but in the Premier League the same cannot be said, and it has become a worry now. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost their last 2 games against Nottingham Forest and Leeds, two sides they would have been expected not to just beat but beat well. The Leeds lost was their first at home this season but also their first since March 2021 at Anfield.

A title challenge is surely over now for Liverpool who are 15 points behind Arsenal and a top 4 finish could be tricky as they trail Newcastle by 8 points. From 12 games it’s won 4, lost 4 and drawn 4 but Liverpool’s form has been much better at home and that is why this game looks a really tough one for them. Away form for the Reds has been awful with no wins as of yet and just 2 points won from 15. They have lost their last two away games in a row and scored just 5 goals.

Team News:

Tottenham: Heung Min-Son is out with a facial injury and won’t return until after the World Cup. Rodrigo Bentacur and Lucas Moura are being tipped to return for this game. Dejan Kulusevski is 50/50 to return for this one and will be assessed. Cristian Romero is out with a muscle injury, Richarlison is being pencilled in to return next weekend but remains a doubt if he will recover in time from his calf injury.

Liverpool: James Milner has been ruled out with a head injury but should return next weekend. Joel Matip is still sidelined as is Naby Keita. Luis Diaz (knee) and Diogo Jota (hamstring) are both out until the end of the year.

Tottenham vs Liverpool Prediction:

Tottenham have a poor recent record over Liverpool, though in their last two games they have edged closer to them, drawing both. For Tottenham they have a lot of mental strength with some good comebacks lately but they will be missing quality players like Son and Richarlison and if Harry Kane doesn’t get the correct service this could be a way to beat them. Tottenham have made positive strides forward and yet they still seem off the pace in challenging the big teams, and silverware still feels distant.

Liverpool have been poor so far there is no getting away from that, they have had injury concerns too and are really feeling the loss of Sadio Mane in the summer. However the club do remain dangerous, we should notice how the Reds have been able to up their game against quality sides and struggle against teams you would expect them to easily beat. Klopp’s side are a great price to win this one, and given how they would have been bolstered with the win over Napoli and some injuries to Tottenham we will take advantage of that and back the Reds to get the win here. They have a terrible away record so far but one would suspect that it won’t last for too long. This would be a big statement victory for Liverpool who will want to finish the mini break in style. We should be in for a great spectacle and one could presume that there could be a spark or two on the touchline with the passion that both Klopp and Conte show, let the entertainment begin.
