England Premier League
Saturday 2nd January 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
You’d think that Tottenham would be raring to go as they play their first match of the new year, and they will be at home to Leeds on Saturday.
Tottenham’s last fixture against Fulham had to be postponed because of the Coronavirus, so the club did not have to play in midweek. Tottenham need to get back on the winning trail as they have gone their last 4 games without victory. Their last result was a 1-1 draw against Wolves and they have slipped too seventh place. They are also 7 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, although they do have a game in hand.
The league at the top is very tight but victory would see Tottenham back in the mix again. At home though 11 points from 21 simply isn’t going to cut it for a side that are aiming to challenge for the league title and Tottenham need to get their act together in their home stadium and stop dropping points.
Leeds are in 11th place but if they claim victory at the weekend they would join Tottenham on the same points. Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won their last 2 games and when in full flow they know how to score goals, they smashed West Bromwich Albion 5-0 in their last game and have scored 30 so far. They are the 4th highest scorers in the league. The flipside to that is that they have conceded 30 goals also. But that is Leeds.
Leeds have won 50% of their away games which is good but take out their victory at Everton and they have struggled playing the quality teams on the road, defeats including Manchester United 6-2, Liverpool 4-3 and Chelsea 3-1.
Team News:
Tottenham: Gareth Bale could be missing for a couple of weeks with an unspecified reason. Carlos Vinicius could be back for this game after not feeling well for the last week. Giovani Lo Celso is out with a muscle injury. Lucas Moura needs to be assessed after not feeling well.
Leeds: Mateusz Klich has a knock though could make this game and will face a test. Robin Koch and Liam Cooper are out long term.
Tottenham vs Leeds Head to Head:
The last league game the clubs played in London was back in 2003 where Tottenham won 2-1.
The last time the clubs played in London was in 2010 in the FA Cup, that game ended 2-2.
There is an 80% chance to see both teams to score.
Tottenham vs Leeds Prediction:
Leeds have the better form but it would be a surprise to see Tottenham defeated at the weekend. There has to be some kind of reaction to the recent average form and Jose Mourinho will be expecting a vintage display from his team.
We know that Tottenham in full flight are a great attacking team and we know how Leeds play, so this should be, at least on paper, very exciting. Perhaps like the Manchester United and Leeds game which saw 8 goals, then again, maybe not. Both teams to score is something that repeats in the history of the clubs fixtures so we won’t pass that up.
Anything less than a win for Tottenham would feel like a huge blow and possibly the beginning of the end of their title hopes if the clubs above them win their games. This is a very important encounter for the home side.
Tottenham vs Leeds Betting Tips:
Tottenham to beat Leeds at 1.72
Both teams to score at 1.50
