Tottenham vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 30th December 2020
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s as clear as day Tottenham need to start winning games again, and they come into this match with no wins in their last four matches. For a team that had the league title on their mind a few weeks ago now they are thinking if Champions League qualification will even happen.

Tottenham are in 7th place and they are still in a good position despite their last victory in the league being at the beginning of the month. They are just a point from 4th and six points from first. Liverpool’s surprise draw against West Bromwich Albion let a few teams off the hook including Jose Mourinho’s.

So what has gone wrong for Tottenham? Well Mourinho singled out Dele Alli for a mistake the player made against Leicester, Mourinho has never been a fan of Alli and one has to wonder if it is correct to drag players names into the media like this. It didn’t work as manager of both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Tottenham were so close to claiming a point at Liverpool before Christmas but a Roberto Firmino injury time goal put paid to that, and they simply haven’t recovered. A 2-0 loss at home to top 4 rivals Leicester was another blow and then Wolves came back late on to draw 1-1 at the weekend. At home Tottenham have only won 40% of their games, which is too low for a club with big ambitions, although they had won 3 games in a row before losing to Leicester.

Fulham will be the outsiders but they have gone their last 4 games unbeaten albeit everyone of them has ended in draws. Impressive recent results have included drawing against Liverpool and Southampton although the Cottagers were at home on both occasions.

Scott Parker’s team remain in the danger zone in 18th place though depending on other results around them a win here would lift them out of the bottom three. Away from home Fulham have won just once, which was against Leicester and have lost 4 games from their seven played.

Team News:

Tottenham: Gareth Bale has a calf injury though it isn’t thought to be serious but he will face a test ahead of the game and remains a doubt. Giovani Lo Celso is ruled out for the next 1-2 weeks at least with a muscle injury.

Fulham: Terence Kongolo has recovered from injury but is facing fitness issues and now isn’t due back for at least another two weeks. Kenny Tete has some fitness issues also but may be assessed ahead of the game.

Tottenham vs Fulham Head to Head:

The teams haven’t played this fixture in the league since 2018 and Tottenham won 3-1.

Tottenham have won the last 4 meetings in a row.

Fulham haven’t beaten Tottenham in the league since 2013.

Tottenham vs Fulham Prediction:

Hell hath no fury if Tottenham do not win this game. Mourinho’s patience will be wearing thin now and only victory will do and the Portuguese manager will want to see a good performance from his side. How far can this Tottenham side progress? The last few weeks has suggested that the club will be the pretenders to the title and yet in Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son they possess devastating quality, those players need to show it against Fulham.

Fulham should be proud of themselves in recent weeks, they have tightened up their defence and become very hard to beat. However we can’t see these decent run of results lasting too long and playing Tottenham away is such a difficult encounter for them. They will come here for another point and try to frustrate the home side. They may have their moments too, but Tottenham should be able to get through this test one would suspect.
