England Premier League
Monday 23rd October 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City are back on top but Tottenham have a chance to reclaim that position. However they must beat Fulham, and at home they will be expected to do just that. Tottenham and Arsenal are the only sides unbeaten so far and it has been a superb start to the season for them with six wins from their opening eight games. Coming into this game they have won two in a row over Liverpool and Luton and at home it’s a 100% record with 3 games and three wins although home fans would probably have liked to see more goals with just six scored so far. Whatever happens Tottenham cannot go below 4th place after this batch of weekend games are played out and even with a defeat they would only remain one point from 1st place. Of course the win is the only result that Tottenham will be after and they would shoot two points clear of the chasing pack with that. The league is potentially looking like the most close and exciting for a few years with Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all within a point of one another.
Fulham are down in 13th place but they may have taken the 11 points they have at this stage of the season had you asked them back in August. They have lost three games but also won three and of course with a team like the Cottagers one could be tempted to back them for a relegation battle on any given season but over the past year they have proved themselves to be quite a handful and already this season have shown evidence that they will not be one of the teams struggling near the bottom three. Recent results have been decent with a 3-1 win over Sheffield United and they have also beaten Luton and drawn against Crystal Palace. Away from home so far it has been just the one win which came against Everton but the Cottagers have only lost one game which was against Manchester City and earlier in the season they were able to hold Arsenal at the Emirates to a 2-2 draw. Fulham remain a side who are unpredictable and that could be a problem for Tottenham.
Team News:
Tottenham: Rodrigo Bentancur has finally recovered from a knee injury but has fitness issues and this game is likely too soon for him. Brennan Johnson is expected to return from a hamstring injury and will be assessed. Manor Soloman has a knee injury and is expected to miss the next two months, Ryan Sessegnon remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and Ivan Perisic is out for the season with a knee injury.
Fulham: Issa Diop could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a foot injury. Tosin isn’t expected back for another 10 days with a groin injury. Adama Traore could be assessed but remains a doubt as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Kenny Tete is out with a groin injury and Matthew Dibley-Dias will be assessed following a hamstring injury but has a chance to be fit.

Tottenham vs Fulham Prediction:
Tottenham’s record over the past decade against Fulham has been superb and even though their last game which was in the EFL Cup ended in defeat that was only on penalties after the game had finished 1-1. The Cottagers do not have a good record away to Tottenham and we expect Spurs to win this game. What is of note is that the fixtures have normally been close run affairs with just the odd goal being the difference. If you shop around you’ll get 1.50 for Tottenham to win but most are pricing the home team up at 1.44 and that may be too short for some, so let’s dig deeper!
Heung Min Son is Tottenham’s top goalscorer with six goals and he has had a flying start to the campaign and we will back him to score again. There is a high percentage on seeing both teams to score but let’s remind ourselves that so far Fulham have scored just four times on the road and Tottenham have really shored up their defence with just 2 conceded at home, so perhaps that market should be avoided. A solid home win for us.
