England Premier League
Saturday 15th October 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
This will be Everton’s first game having to face Richarlison as an opponent in over four years. The Brazilian became a much loved cult figure at Goodison Park and so for fans it will be strange for him to be an opponent and that could be the focal point of this encounter.
Tottenham have got off to a terrific start and come into this game in 3rd place and are only four points behind league leaders Arsenal. It’s been just one defeat so far for Antonio Conte’s side and last weekend they beat Brighton 1-0 away. In midweek the club were involved in Champions League football and came away with an impressive 3-2 win over Eintract Frankfurt with some superb goals to boot. There has been a feel good factor at the club for most of the season and that could be set to continue this weekend as they try to put more pressure on Arsenal and Manchester City. At home Spurs have a 100% record and their last game here finished in a 6-2 win over Leicester. If Tottenham win they will not be able to advance any higher in the league but would join Manchester City on the same points and only be one point shy of Arsenal. Both Arsenal and City play on Sunday.
Everton have had a solid if at times frustrating start to the season. They have generally been hard to play against and breakdown and despite losing 2-1 last weekend against Manchester United they have the joint best defence conceding 9 goals so far. Everton are in 12th place on 10 points keep this up and they should finish with a few more points than last season but could also get dragged into another relegation battle. In truth though the club have been playing well and with more purpose and many believe that they could be heading more for a mid table finish. The worry though is from their opening 9 games it’s just two wins so far, but there have also been a lot of draws, 4 so far.
Half of the Toffees points have come away from home and they won their last away game coming from behind to beat Southampton 2-1. It’s also 3 games away from home unbeaten and we would have to go back to August for the clubs last away defeat.
Team News:
Tottenham: Emerson Royal is suspended, Dejan Kulusevski has recovered from injury and is being tipped to be fine for this game. Richarlison will be assessed with his knee but is being tipped to play.
Everton: Anthony Gordon is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Mason Holgate is a week away because of fitness issues. Yerry Mina is still out with a calf injury, Nathan Patterson is not due back until the end of the month because of a knee injury.
Tottenham vs Everton Head to Head:
Everton have a terrible memory of last season away to Tottenham as they were beaten 5-0.
It’s been two years since Everton last beat Tottenham in the league and the Toffees have won just twice in the last 20 meetings.
Tottenham have scored 11 goals past Everton in the last four meetings.
Tottenham vs Everton Prediction:
Everton have played some good football and the players have reacted well to Frank Lampard and his backroom staff. However playing a quality side such as Tottenham and with this being an away game, this will be incredibly tough for the Merseysiders. Whilst Everton have got some good results so far everytime they have come up against a top six side in the country this season they have lost. The defeats were narrow but the points remain the same and together with losing against Manchester United last weekend they also lost against Chelsea in their opening match and both of these games were at home.
Tottenham will have to be at 100% of course but they should have enough quality in the locker to get the desired result here at home and continue their perfect home record. Harry Kane to score doesn’t feel like a tip, but more an obligation but it is true against Everton he has scored many times, and so it could be a good move to pick him once again.
