England Premier League
Monday 6th July 2020
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
The Monday night game looks like a great appetiser for the week ahead as Tottenham take on Everton.
Jose Mourinho has had a bad week given that Tottenham went down 3-1 against Sheffield United and were always second best in that game. It effectively ended the clubs chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season. Spurs have dropped to 9th place and have seen their rivals Arsenal sail past them.
It’s just 1 win in Tottenham’s last five games and one wonders if Mourinho is starting to feel the pressure? Certainly he was suffering before the break and the team had plenty of injuries but even with key players returning like Harry Kane Spurs are not where most people would have predicted them to be at under Mourinho’s leadership.
At best they may finish the season in 7th place, that doesn’t strike well for a club that reached last seasons Champions League final. Though Mourinho will most probably be judged on his second season with the club. At home though Tottenham do have the 5th best record in the league winning 9 of their 16 games.
Everton have restarted the campaign in great fashion winning 2 games and drawing one and the draw was against Liverpool. In the Toffee’s last game they beat 3rd placed Leicester 2-1 and one player who would have been over the moon is Richarlison who finally scored. Carlo Ancelotti’s team are now in 11th place and with a good finish they could well be knocking on the door of Europa qualification. The key at least for Ancelotti will be having the club finish in the top half of the league.
Everton’s away form has been their anchor though where they have lost 9 times from 16 games and have gained 15 points this season from a possible 48. They have won 50% of their last four away games though.
Team News:
Tottenham: The club have no new injury concerns coming into this game.
Everton: Richarlison is the only new concern for the club with an ankle injury but he has been back in training and will be assessed before the game.
Tottenham vs Everton Head to Head:
Earlier in the season the teams drew 1-1.
Last season this fixture ended 2-2.
Everton have not beaten Tottenham in the league since 2012 and away from home since 2008.
The last 3 meetings has seen both teams to score.
Tottenham vs Everton Prediction:
In a way there are a few similarities with the clubs this season. One major similarity seems to be the brilliant quality that both teams possess but at the same time there is a vulnerability within both sides. If they meet an attacking team with a plan b, c or even d, their tactics could fall like a pack of cards. Both clubs are proud, and this will be a fascinating game to watch as they try and make a claim for a European place. Tottenham’s defeat at Sheffield United could well have winded them, or put the fire into their belly. Everton can’t be criticised as such with a positive start to the campaign again. This could be a close game but the away side have a dreadful record here. We think this game will contain goals, and we don't see Tottenham losing.
