Tottenham vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 14th September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

This isn’t the start to their league campaign that Tottenham would have envisaged. Having reached last seasons Champions League final and having a good run in the league, this beginning of the campaign has felt slightly anti-climactic. The good news is that there is a feeling within the club that all will suddenly click. Training sessions have gone well, the players look fit and manager Mauricio Pochettino is remaining in good spirits. Still the club have gone 3 games without a win and they can’t really afford to make that four.

Tottenham will start as the odds on favourites being at home and on paper this should be a straight forward victory. The club can claim that apart from the Newcastle loss they have had a tough fixture list which has seen them play the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. Both of those games finished 2-2 and earning points in those matches could well be massive come the end of the season.

Crystal Palace have surprised everyone after drawing 0-0 at home to Everton on the opening weekend of the season. From there Roy Hodgson’s side have beaten both Manchester United and Aston Villa. Obviously the United victory was huge and it was at Old Trafford. That is a shock result that could well play on Tottenham’s minds. Palace come into this game in 4th place with 7 points, two more than Spurs.

Team News:

Tottenham: New signing Giovani Lo Celso has been ruled out until the end of October after he picked up a hip injury on international duty. Eric Dier will be assessed after recovering from his hip injury. Davison Sanchez aggravated his ankle on international duty and will be assessed. Ryan Sessegnon could appear after recovering from his hamstring injury but there is no confirmation as yet

Crystal Palace: Scott Dann should be available after his hand injury last month. James Tomkins has been out since April and there is a chance he could be included in this game, possibly starting from the bench

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season Tottenham won this fixture 2-0.

Tottenham have won 6 of the last 7 meetings against Crystal Palace.

The last 8 meetings have all ended under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace have not beaten Tottenham in London since 2016.

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Can Palace continue to pull off the shocks? Well a lot will be against them and even though Newcastle came here a few weeks ago and stunned Tottenham, this time they will be better prepared. There is a feeling within the team that they need to be playing to their maximum and they should be able to go out and enjoy themselves and get the desired result that everyone is expecting. Plus Tottenham have a great recent record over Palace, and we think they will have the quality to ease to a win here. Harry Kane is also scoring goals and there does look like goals can come from everywhere in this team.
