England Premier League
Sunday 22nd December 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
Where do we start with this fixture? It is a fierce London derby loaded with tradition. It is an opportunity for Tottenham to take 4th place from Chelsea and it is of course Jose Mourinho not only facing his old team but facing one of the best players turned managers he has ever coached in Frank Lampard. Get ready for fireworks before Christmas.
Tottenham have won 4 of their last 5 games with just 1 league defeat under Mourinho coming at Manchester United. The club have been full of goals since his appointment and last time they were at home they stuck 5 goals past Burnley.
Indeed Tottenham have scored 11 goals in their last 3 home matches and in the league they have lost just once at home, which was against Newcastle.
Chelsea are in poor form. It has been an interesting season for Frank Lampard so far whose side started poorly, got much better, danced with the top 4 clubs but once they were there they couldn’t hold it down and could be about to start dropping off, or will they?
The Blues have lost 4 of their last 5 games and their bad form was hammered home when they lost last weekend at home against Bournemouth. Chelsea have been poor at home overall and they actually have a better away record, where 15 of their total of 29 points have been won on the road. Whilst the club have won 5 of their 8 away games, caution must be looked into as they have lost their last two away matches to Everton and Manchester City.
The other teams including Tottenham, Sheffield United, Manchester United and Newcastle are like a pack of wolves now who are homing in on Chelsea, so a win really is needed. Keep up this form and they could soon be heading for 10th rather than keep 4th place.
Team News:
Tottenham: The club has no new injuries to report but could welcome back Michel Vorm from his calf injury
Chelsea: The Blues have no new injuries coming into this game
Tottenham vs Chelsea Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham won this game 3-1.
Since 2005 Chelsea have just 2 wins at Tottenham.
5 of the last 7 meetings have ended with both teams scoring.
Tottenham vs Chelsea Prediction:
Tottenham have the much better confidence coming into this game and one suspects that Mourinho will simply not allow any of his players to be less than 100% in this game. He won’t be able to live with Lampard getting a win over him so early in his career and Mourinho will want to set up his side to be unplayable with countless attacks and bossing the midfield. Tottenham are hard to resist at this moment. They do face learning curves on the road but at home and with this team we don’t expect them to lose too many games. Chelsea are there to be beaten but of course will have their chances too and remain very dangerous. Our tip here though is to see a solid Tottenham display that ends with a narrow victory, hence the fact we will cover the draw in our bet. Are the bookmakers being too generous with the prices for Tottenham to win? We think so.
