Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
When your manager is Jose Mourinho it will feel that your team is never out of the spotlight and it is something that Tottenham will have to get used to. In midweek there was so much more than just Tottenham meeting Manchester United. It was of course Mourinho returning to Old Trafford after being sacked by the club a year ago.
The game ended in defeat for Mourinho and Tottenham though as Manchester United won 2-1 to ease the pressure from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it was a fascinating match. Mourinho will know that Tottenham will need an instant comeback from his first loss as Tottenham manager and that does look well set up, being at home against Burnley.
The defeat put Tottenham back down to 8th place with 20 points and a win at the weekend depending on results could move them up one or two places. The loss was also the clubs first in 4 games. Despite Tottenham’s problems this season it should be remembered that they have only lost 1 game at home and have won 11 from their last 15 points available at home.
Burnley could go past Tottenham with a win so they will have some strong motivation to win this match. They have 18 points but recent form has dipped and they come into this match having lost their last 2 games. In midweek they lost 4-1 at home to Manchester City and the week before Crystal Palace beat them 2-0.
Perhaps what is telling about Sean Dyche’s side is that they have won just 1 game away from home this season. The good news though could be that it was their last away game when they beat Watford 3-0. But clearly playing Tottenham will be a massive step up.
Team News:
Tottenham: Whilst the club have some long term injuries they have no new injuries coming into this match
Burnley: Gundmusson has now been confirmed as a long term injury with his hamstring and looks set to be out for the rest of the year. Charlie Taylor is 50/50 after his hamstring
Tottenham vs Burnley Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham beat Burnley 1-0 at home.
Burnley have only beaten Tottenham once in the last 10 meetings.
There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.
Tottenham vs Burnley Prediction:
Tottenham should win the game, but they are around 1.44 which isn’t the best value for us. Instead we will use a -1 asian handicap to increase the odds with no extra risk. There is no reason to believe that the club can’t come out and attack from the first minute, and if they are a wounded animal after the United defeat then Burnley could be in for a very tough 90 minutes.
Dele Alli has really reacted to Mourinho as manager and looks back to his best after a quiet few months. He is energized and motivated although we will be backing Harry Kane to score as he has scored numerous times against Burnley, including a recent hat-trick. We can’t see anything here except a Tottenham win and don’t expect them to lose two games in a row.
Tottenham vs Burnley Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Tottenham) at 1.61
Anytime goalscorer: Harry Kane at 1.80
