England Premier League
Thursday 26th December 2019
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
The lunch time Boxing Day clash will see Tottenham take on Brighton and the positive feelings of Jose Mourinho being in charge have taken a slight dent. This was highlighted at the weekend when Tottenham lost convincingly at home to Chelsea 2-0 and from the 8 games that Mourinho has been in charge Tottenham have already lost 3 times in all competitions.
The pressure isn’t at boiling point but maybe something has raised to the surface and Tottenham will need to win this match with home advantage again and to bottom half of the table Brighton. The Chelsea match felt like a surprise given both teams form and Tottenham had just 1 shot on target. Spurs have fallen to 7th place as a result and are 6 points adrift of a top 4 finish. At home the club have picked up 8 points from their last 15 and have lost 2 games here all season, they would be 4th based on home form alone.
Brighton lost at home to Sheffield United at the weekend and they come into this match in 13th place. Since beating Arsenal the club have gone 3 games without a win with draws against Wolves and Crystal Palace, but their latest loss was the first time they hadn’t scored a goal in a month of games.
Graham Potter’s side have lost 5 of their 9 games away from home but have gone the last two on the road unbeaten. They are not scoring many goals on their travels with just 9 so far.
Team News:
Tottenham: Heung-Min Son is suspended for 3 games after being sent off against Chelsea, there are no new injury concerns for the club, with Lloris, Lamela, and Davies all long term absentees.
Brighton: The club have no new injuries coming into this game
Tottenham vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham won this fixture 1-0.
From the last 7 meetings home or away Tottenham have won 5 of them.
3 from the last 4 meetings when Tottenham have been at home have seen just one team score.
Tottenham vs Brighton Prediction:
Surely there will be a reaction from Tottenham after the Chelsea game? Or has the rot set in this early? We tend to doubt it, and we expect Tottenham to get all three points. The problem is that Brighton will try and sense some discontent and of course Son will be missing after his straight red card in the last game. If Brighton commit themselves too much they could get punished though and play straight into Mourinho’s hands.
Tottenham will need this win and try to win well to quell some pressure. Dele Alli has looked overall like a refreshed player since Mourinho came in and we will back him to score in this game as Harry Kane is odds on and we feel there is simply better value backing Alli with his price. Be cautious on your stakes as we need to know that Tottenham’s display against Chelsea was simply a blip and not the sign of things to come.
Tottenham vs Brighton Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Tottenham) at 1.93
