Tottenham vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 10th February 2024
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham will be looking to erase the memory of this reverse fixture which was only played a few weeks ago when Brighton ran out 4-2 winners. Tottenham will be obliged too and obliged to win because their title hopes took a serious dent last weekend up at Everton. Tottenham led twice in that game but Everton equalised deep into injury time and the game finished 2-2. It means that Tottenham have slipped to 5th place and have 44 points and are seven behind league leaders Liverpool. The good news is that the London club are unbeaten for their past four matches with wins over Bournemouth and Brighton and they will be looking to make this their third win in a row against a side who start with the letter B.

Home has been fairly strong for Tottenham with 8 wins from 11 but because they are yet to draw here home fans have still seen three defeats. Recent home form is very encouraging with 4 straight wins in a row and that includes victories over Bournemouth, Newcastle, Everton and Brentford.

Brighton are in 8th place and a cool nine points behind their hosts and form is stable with just one defeat in their past five games. However at the end of last month the club were taken down a peg or two as they were throttled 4-0 by Luton. The good news is that they were able to recover quickly and won their follow up game against Crystal Palace 4-1. Talk about getting it out of your system. This was important to see though and showed us just how good the players are to react to such a loss and manager Roberto De Zerbi on the whole continues to do a sterling job for the club. With a win Brighton may move past both West Ham and Manchester United although both sides would need to lose.

Team News:

Tottenham: Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon are out long term with no fixed return dates. Heung Min-Son is expected to be back from international duty

Brighton: Joel Veltman has recovered from a knee injury and could be assessed. James Milner and Soloman March remain sidelined. Julio Enciso is not due back for at least two weeks due to a knee injury

Tottenham vs Brighton Prediction:

There is no doubt about it, Brighton are one of the best sides in the league pound for pound and they continue to do well even with having to sell quality and deal with injuries. However De Zerbi’s side does have problems away from home and in recent times they have managed just 2 points from their last 15 and have only been able to win 3 from their 11 games played.

Tottenham cannot afford to keep dropping points and if the top teams record more wins and Tottenham were even to draw here that really could be curtains for a league title push. Tottenham should be respected at home though and they are likely to have Son up front to bolster their hopes. The worry remains that their defence can be leaky and Brighton will certainly have chances however the home side are good value and we will stick with them to get all three points in what should be an entertaining game.
