Tottenham vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 8th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham are still on the search for a new manager and could well stick with Cristian Stellini until the end of the season. With just one win in their last four games a top four finish is now under threat for the club who looked like being a shoe in a few months ago and they come into this game in 5th place with 50 points. There is of course still time on their side but continue like this and Tottenham will soon be out of the running for a Champions League place.

On Monday the club drew 1-1 at Everton in a disappointing result for Spurs given that they were leading in the 90th minute and yet again dropped two points. You get the sense though that the players will be happy to be returning home given that their last home match was almost a month ago, there they beat Nottingham Forest 3-1. Home form has overall been strong with 10 wins from 14 games and they are yet to draw.

Brighton have a small chance to make a bid for a Champions League place even though they are in sixth position and this is because they have two games in hand over Tottenham although two of their last four games have seen points dropped as they drew against Brentford and Leeds. The Seagulls did win their last game in midweek with a 2-0 victory at Bournemouth and away form has been solid with no defeats so far this year. Overall Roberto De Zerbi’s side have lost three times on the road and won almost 50% of their games and in fact have the fourth best record away from home in the league.

Team News:

Tottenham: Lucas Moura is suspended for 3 games after his red card vs Everton. Richarlison is set to miss out again with a muscle injury but could be back next week. Emerson Royal is out for at least a month with a knee injury. Yves Bissouma is sidelined with his ankle and Ryan Sessegnon also misses out again due to his hamstring.

Brighton: Tariq Lamptey was expected to return soon but an update suggests that he will be missing for an extended period with his knee injury. Adam Lallana could well be ruled out for the remainder of the season with a muscle injury and is not expected back for another six weeks. Jeremy Sarimento is also expected to miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Tottenham vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season Brighton won this fixture 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Tottenham won 1-0.

Tottenham have won 7 of the last 10 meetings against Brighton.

Tottenham vs Brighton Prediction:

It shows how far Brighton have come to be the same price to win this game away to Tottenham with the majority of bookmakers and all credit to them. We should witness quite a game where both sides will have to dig hard for the victory. The worry for Tottenham is that they need an experienced manager in charge and their defending against Everton who have struggled for most of the season was poor. Had Everton possessed more quality up front we could have been looking at a similar scoreline to what Leicester were able to dish out when they beat Tottenham 4-1.

At home Tottenham have been generally strong and Harry Kane will need to motivate his team to put a shift in. It is frustrating for everyone who has a vested interest in this game because the quality of player that Tottenham has they should be winning this game at home with little doubts but Brighton are going to really test them. It is a game that could go either way with no real advantage for any side other than Tottenham being at home, but we will learn about Tottenham’s character over the weekend.
