England Premier League
Thursday 2nd December 2021
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Match Preview:
There have been a lot of excuses made for Tottenham this season; the team is in transition, the new manager (Nuno Espirito Santo) needs time to settle, the Harry Kane will he stay or won’t he that ravaged the team in the summer and is still seemingly affecting them in one way or another. Nuno sacked, replaced by Antonio Conte and so on and so on. But surely the time for excuses are over now and Tottenham come into this game with none of them, they have even had time to rest this past weekend as their away game against Burnley was postponed because of the weather.
Tottenham won their last game as they beat Leeds 2-1 at home in a nervous encounter for Conte and his team. It was Conte’s first league game at home and he had to win it however Leeds took the lead before Tottenham were able to come back.
As it stands Tottenham are not doing too bad and are in 7th place but just 4 points from a top four spot and they look primed to make a splash into that elite group which has to be their objective this season. Recent form is hardly good with 2 defeats from their last four games however we should only count the time Conte has been at the club and in the league he is unbeaten in the two games managed so far.
Brentford secured a huge 3 points at the weekend as they squeezed past Everton 1-0 via an Ivan Toney penalty. Toney lit up the Championship last season but has struggled at times in the Premier League which has been a clear step up for him however he has managed to score a few goals lately and this will have given him a lot of confidence.
The Bees are in 11th place with 16 points and have a six point safety cushion to the bottom three. But 11th place should be celebrated and make no mistake if the club finish the season in this position there will be celebrations. They will feel that they are almost half way there to guaranteeing their safety now. There was a worrying moment a month ago when Brentford lost 3 games in a row but they come into this match unbeaten in their last two and away from home they have lost just once so far.
Team News:
Tottenham: Giovani Lo Celso looks a doubt with an ongoing knock issue. Cristian Romero is still out with a muscle injury. Dane Scarlett has an ankle injury and is a doubt.
Brentford: Sergi Canos has a knock although he has a good chance to shake that off and feature in this game, it is the same case for Rico Henry. Zanka looks like he will miss out with a muscle injury. Christian Norgaard has a back injury although it is thought not to be serious and he could feature here.
Tottenham vs Brentford Head to Head:
The teams did play each other at the beginning of the year in the EFL Cup and Tottenham who were at home won 2-0.
Brentford have not beaten Tottenham for the past 11 games and because they have avoided being in the top flight for so long their last victory was in 1948.
From the last seven meetings Tottenham have won 6.
Tottenham vs Brentford Prediction:
Is this the game where Harry Kane finally shines and shrugs off a season that has been his worst? Is this the game where Heung Min-Son gets on the score sheet too? Tottenham have some amazing fire power up front but judging on this season so far you wouldn’t have known it.
Brentford are a very exciting team who are clearly enjoying themselves and if Tottenham do not give 100% the Bees will win this game. However with Conte in charge and just reviewing some of the words he has been saying of late one would expect Tottenham to win this game and win it well.
Backing the home side seems like the sensible choice and we will give Harry Kane a bit more belief and hope that he strikes gold at home.
Tottenham vs Brentford Betting Tips:
Tottenham to beat Brentford at 1.62
Anytime goalscorer: Harry Kane at 1.72
