Tottenham vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 31st December 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham’s 3 game winning streak was struck down with such ferocity that one is reminded just how fragile they can be at times. On one side you have a team who truly believe that they can have a shot at the title and on the other there is a team who may just about qualify for the Europa League. Brighton put Tottenham to the sword and won 4-2 three days after Christmas and now the club has to take on one of the best in form sides in the league.

Tottenham are in 5th place but with 36 points they are only a point behind fourth and six points behind 1st place, their chances are certainly not over but we have seen evidence that this Tottenham side doesn’t seem fully equipped in the second half of the season to mount a serious title challenge. At home the club has won 6 games from 9 however they have lost 3 but have been able to win their last two home games which came against Newcastle and Everton.

Bournemouth have lost just once in their last 10 games and on form would be in 1st place, it has been a remarkable six weeks for the Cherries. The club have climbed into 12th place and have 25 points, their last win came over Fulham with an easy 3-0 win and their last away match was a 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest. It gets better for the club as they have won their last four games in a row and that includes beating Manchester United 3-0. The club's last away defeat was a heavy 6-1 loss to Manchester City but that came back almost two months ago.

Team News:

Tottenham: Yves Bissouma and Dejan Kulusevski are both suspended. James Maddison is missing at least for another two weeks due to an ankle injury. Cristian Romero has been ruled out for at least a month with a hamstring injury. Oliver Skipp will be assessed with a knock. Manor Soloman remains sidelined with a knee issue but is expected back in two weeks and Ivan Perisic is out for the season with a knee injury

Bournemouth: Hamed Traore is out for an extended time with a malaria virus. Milos Kerkez looks set to miss the next month with a foot injury, Lloyd Kelly is out for the same amount of time with his hamstring. Lewis Cook is only 50/50 to return as he recovers from a groin injury. Emiliano Marcondes will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness but remains a doubt to return for this game. Tyler Adams and Ryan Fredericks remain out long term with no fixed return date.

Tottenham vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season Bournemouth won this fixture 3-2 it was the first ever time that the club had won away to Tottenham.

Three of the last five meetings have ended with the correct score of 3-2.

There is a 60% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Tottenham vs Bournemouth Prediction:

On paper this is a Tottenham victory but you have to hand it to Bournemouth and give them credit for their recent run and they are going to be a difficult opponent for Tottenham. There are goals in this fixture and we can see that pattern continuing at the weekend. Bournemouth are probably one of the last clubs that Tottenham want to be facing after their recent loss because the Cherries in the form that they are in are going to be asking questions of this side.

We have the potential to see one of the most exciting games on the final day of the Premier League calendar year and we expect plenty of chances for both sides. Bournemouth can be had at 4.00 to win this game and given how Tottenham can at times struggle against teams not in the top six but punching above their weight we think this is great value. It enables us to back the away side with a very generous positive handicap (+1 asian handicap) meaning Tottenham would have to win by two goals for the bet to lose. Yes they have the better team and are at home, but just looking at both teams form and spirit coming into this game we are tempted by the Cherries.

Tottenham vs Bournemouth Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+1 Bournemouth) at 1.65

Anytime goalscorer: Dominic Solanke at 2.75

Anytime goalscorer: Marcus Tavernier at 5.00

Over 3.5 goals at 1.91
