Tottenham vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 26th November 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

In the last few weeks not only have Tottenham lost their unbeaten record they have slipped from 1st to 4th and will be looking to get back to winning ways at the weekend. Tottenham have lost their last two coming into this one after a 4-1 home loss to Chelsea and then a 2-1 defeat away to Wolves. Before then Tottenham looked solid and their mentality looked different from previous seasons but questions will be asked now if the Londoners have lost form- this game will answer that question.

The good news for Tottenham is that other clubs around them have been dropping points and they are only one win away from being right back in the mix. At home they have managed four wins from five games with just the Chelsea loss so far but have scored just 9 goals so far. Aston Villa have been pound for pound the most impressive team so far in the league and come into this weekend in fifth place and just one point behind their hosts. Villa’s last game before the break ended in a 3-1 home win over Fulham. Recent form has seen the club win 10 points from a possible 15. While Unai Emery’s side have impressed they have suffered away from home picking up seven points from a possible 18 and they would rank in 13th place based on away form alone. It’s also been two months since Villa recorded their last away win which came against Chelsea and their last two away games have ended in a 1-1 draw with Wolves and a 2-0 loss at Nottingham Forest.

Team News:

Tottenham: Yves Bissouma is suspended for picking up a fifth yellow card of the season. James Maddison is out with an ankle injury and is expected to miss the next six weeks. Ashley Phillips has been ruled out for a month with an ankle injury. Richarlison is missing for at least two weeks with a pelvic injury, Cristian Romero is suspended and not due back for two weeks. Pape Sarr will be assessed for a slight knock, Manor Soloman remains out with a knee injury and is not expected back for between 2-3 weeks. Ivan Perisic is out for the season with a knee injury.

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey is being tipped to return after a knock. Matthew Cash and Diego Carlos will be assessed but could return. Emiliano Martinez and Joe McGinn are expected to be fit after recent knocks, Bertrand Traore has the same injury but is expected to miss out but could return next week. Nicolo Zaniolo will be assessed for a knock and Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia remain out long term.

There hasn’t been a 0-0 scoreline since 2010.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

This will be interesting to see how this version of Tottenham deals with recent events. They have looked brilliant for the first two and a half months of the season but the back to back defeats are a worry. It isn’t just losing games though and then trying to bounce back because Tottenham’s injury list is building up and that includes some key players. James Maddison is a huge miss and Christian Romero is a rock in defence and he is out because of suspension.

Aston Villa look strong but haven’t been convincing away from home however they are going to draw on last season's results and should come here with a lot of confidence, the value on Villa is good and we will back them for the away win. Get on Douglas Luiz to find the net too he has managed to score in the last two games against Spurs.
