Tottenham vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 10th August 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

The early evening game on Saturday will see Tottenham who had such a strong season and new comers Aston Villa.

Tottenham will start as the obvious favourites being at home but this could be a very entertaining game given that Villa have spent a lot of money this summer.

For Tottenham they finally bucked the trend and spent big bringing in Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for a reported £60m, which could rise and Ryan Sessegnon has come from relegated Fulham for £25m. Giovani Lo Celso has come on loan from Real Betis also.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side remained unbeaten in their pre season games and won the International Champions Cup. What would have been encouraging for the manager is the calibre of teams they have faced which have included Juventus, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Aston Villa will be delighted to be back in the Premier League but they will realise this is a big ask to come here and get the win. Villa had a superb pre season winning all of their games and they have every right to feel confident ahead of the new season.

The club have spent over £100m as they try to make the right choices and gamble on survival. In has come Jota from Birmingham City and the clubs biggest expenditure was on striker Wesley from Club Brugge. Tyrone Mings has been bought for £20m and one that catches the eye is Douglas Luiz from Manchester City.

Team News:

Tottenham: Dele Alli is almost certainly out of this game with a hamstring. Serge Aurier has a hand injury but is trying to make the game but no confirmation so far. Heung-Son Min is suspended for 3 games as well as Juan Foyth. Victor Wanyama has a knee injury but is close to a return

Aston Villa: James Chester is out with a hamstring injury

Tottenham vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Tottenham should have few problems to win the game. Aston Villa could start well and they will have a lot of confidence about them but Tottenham are a class act and they will be difficult to beat at home. It is hard to see past a home win and the bookmakers think the same and that is why they are being quoted at around 1.30 to win the game. We will concentrate on the goals market instead. Tottenham are beginning this season to win trophies and this then is a must win game to get their season off to the best possible start.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer Lucas Moura at 2.40
