Tottenham vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd March 2019
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Wembley Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham did have faint chances of a first league title in 5 decades but surely that is dream is over now after losing their last two games. The first was seen as a surprise after Burnley defeated them 2-1, the next was the same old song and dance loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a ground they have not won at in the league since 1990.

These two defeats have left the club 9 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool and with Manchester City in between them, the league is over for the London side. The more pressing issue is whether they will finish in 3rd and claim an automatic Champions League place? A one time 7 point cushion has been reduced to just 4, and breathing down their necks is none other than Arsenal, who they will play in this Saturday lunchtime kick off.

To add to Tottenham’s headaches, Manchester United and Chelsea are not too far behind so there is real pressure on the club to put in a good performance and get the win against a great rival. Tottenham have lost 4 times at home, but they do come into this match having won their last 3 games in a row in front of their fans.

Arsenal have a new found confidence after beating Bournemouth 5-1 in their last game, all five were different scorers including Mesut Ozil who has had a difficult season under coach Unai Emery.

The Gunners have won their last 5 games in a row to give them fresh hope of not only a top 4 place but possibly a top 3. If they win at the weekend they will be just one point behind Tottenham with 10 games left to play.

Arsenal won their last away game which came against Huddersfield in a narrow 2-1 victory, but overall their recent away form has been very poor, gaining just 4 points from their last 15.

Team News:

Tottenham: Dele Alli has been pencilled in to make this game and will be assessed. Eric Dier has missed two games due to illness but has a chance to make this squad. Jan Vertonghen will be assessed after his hip injury but remains a doubt.

Arsenal: Laurent Koscielny picked up a knock in the last game and will be assessed for this match, but could be 50/50.Stephan Lichtsteiner is another doubt with a back injury

Tottenham vs Arsenal Head to Head:

In the reverse fixture Arsenal beat Tottenham 4-2 this season.

Last season at Wembley Tottenham won this fixture 1-0.

Arsenal have not beaten Tottenham away from home since 2014.

Tottenham vs Arsenal Prediction:

This will be a very heated game with a lot on the line. There will be doubts about Tottenham who have lost too many games to direct top 6 teams at Wembley. At the same time Arsenal do not travel well and even struggled to beat bottom club Huddersfield recently. Even though we believe Tottenham can prove their doubters wrong our main bet for this game will be to see more goals in the 2nd half, this is based on the fact that this has happened for the last 4 Premier League games when Tottenham have been the designated home side. Expect as normal an intense game.
