Thomas Frank set for Spurs & Tuchel disappoints

The Premier League season has been somewhat overwhelmed by two managers at two huge clubs who repeatedly underperformed and now one has been sacked. Ange Postecologu has lost his job at Tottenham and it shouldn't come as a shock after the season they have had. That season is focused in the Premier League where the club finished in 17th place after losing 22 games. And yet of course it was a campaign in which Tottenham ended their trophy drought with a Europa League win and thus qualified for the Champions League. Should a season be based on 90 minutes? That is the question. Time and again we witnessed Ange's side being outwitted by most of the teams in the league; they even struggled against non league club Tamworth in the FA Cup when they needed extra time to get past them. This Tottenham team looked exciting on attack but incredibly naive overall and it was something that Ange was not able to fix the whole season. Having said that the club fared better in Europe and did pull off some impressive results, think about their away performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi finals. In the final Spurs were able to grind out a result against Ruben Amorim's Manchester United as two managers who won't budge on tactics came together. Ange won and yet it is him who has lost his job.

It is interesting to see how both clubs have worked crisis seasons. For Tottenham owner Daniel Levy has pulled the trigger but at United it is clear that they will stick with Amorim who has under performed worse than Postecoglou. Such is life and it will be interesting to see if United's gamble pays off. It didn't last time they tried to keep an under performing manager in Erik ten Hag. But history tells us that just because a manager has a poor first season doesn't mean that they cannot ultimately be a success. We only have to look at Sir Alex Ferguson for the hardest evidence. As for Tottenham whilst fans heavily criticised Ange they did seem to come round to him greatly helped by the good vibes of a cup win of course. Brentford manager Thomas Frank is the odds-on favourite to get the Tottenham job and at times this season he has shown his qualities but it remains to be seen what he can achieve at a club who have been so wholly inconsistent for decades.

Thomas Tuchel's England start as manager has been worrying. England have looked sluggish under the new regime. First there was the 1-0 victory over Andorra which was followed up by a 3-1 home defeat by Senegal. The Andorra victory was a World Cup qualifier and England were expected to score quite a few goals. True a win is a win but the performance was labouring and that will be a concern. Against Senegal England were expected to have some spark but the African side were stronger than first thought and in beating England became the first African side to beat them. This is an unwanted record for Tuchel and while focus will be on next year's World Cup, history has taught us that poor performances leading up to major competitions is usually a bad sign. Another possible problem could be with England's potentially best player Jude Bellingham. He has been quite outstanding the past couple of years but seems to have a short fuse which even Tuchel mentioned. England fans have suffered throughout the years and one could foresee Bellingham losing his head and seeing red in crunch games in the future. England's next fixtures are not until September when they will play Andorra at home and Serbia away. Early signs tell us England will be at the next World Cup but how they perform there when other nations look to have improved is another story altogether. For now England under Tuchel look dreadfully short.

To win the 2026 World Cup: (Early Odds)

Brazil 8.00, England 8.00, France 8.00, Spain 10.00, Argentina 11.00
