England Premier League
Sunday 4th October 2020
Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium
Match Preview:
Southampton’s 1-0 win over Burnley last weekend would have been very much welcomed after the club’s poor start, which has seen them lose their opening two games. Using a classic 4-4-2 will not work against every opponent not in 2020, but the gamble just about paid off in that game. It wasn’t a classic by any means and the Saints goal was in fact their only shot on target for the whole game.
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will feel that playing West Bromwich Albion at home could afford his side back to back wins, and whilst that is not a given what his club do not need at this stage before an Internatonal break is to be playing a top six side. Despite the Saints poor start they could be propelled into the top 10 with a win and depending on other results.
West Bromwich Albion come into this game in 17th place with 2 losses and one draw after their first three games. Manager Slaven Bilic may feel bemused by their position because the club have in fact played some good football. But like Norwich last season whilst they haven’t been afraid to go forward they have looked naive at the back and that is why they have already conceded 11 goals.
Last weekend they had victory snapped from inside their jaws as they were 3-0 up against Chelsea and about to declare a surprise result, but they let the Blues back in and that game finished 3-3.
Team News:
Southampton: The Saints have no major injury concerns coming into this match.
West Bromwich Albion: Kieran Gibbs is suspended for 3 games and so will miss this match. Kamil Grosicki has recovered from a back injury and is back in training but is only 50/50 to make this match.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Southampton vs West Brom Prediction:
Southampton have the best over WBA in recent games but have both teams have started very similar with poor results and there doesn’t seem much between them.
However being at home even without fans it seems evident there is still an advantage, be it the familar surroundings of where you play, and we believe that the Saints can run out winners. What they have to show in this game is their Premier League experience, they battled hard in the second half of the league last season, that commitment needs to be shown right now for them to get back on track.
