Southampton vs Leeds: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 18th May 2021
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton have found a small pocket of form as the season winds down and come into this game having won their last two. Both Crystal Palace and Fulham have been beaten respectively and both games ended in the same 3-1 score line. This will give the Saints a nice spring in their step and they are in 14th place with 43 points.

With this form Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side could finish the season in 12th or 13th. It’s interesting to note with the way the fixtures have fallen is that this will be the clubs 3rd straight home game and the club have gone their last 4 unbeaten here. We would have to go back to mid March for the Saints last defeat at home which came against Brighton.

Leeds are also in good form and at the weekend the club recorded their 16th win of the season as they hammered Burnley 4-0 away from home. Marcelo Bielsa’s team are really enjoying their football in this period and they come into this encounter in 10th place and just 2 points behind Arsenal. Leeds are yet to draw away from home and that record could stay as this is their last away game of the season. It’s won 9 and lost 9 so far but recent away form is strong and they have won 3 of their last four games.

Team News:

Southampton: Jan Bednarek is only 50/50 to return because of his ankle. Oriol Romeu is out with the same problem.

Leeds: Joe Gelhardt has a knock and looks like he will miss this game.

Southampton vs Leeds Head to Head:

The clubs have not played this fixture with Southampton at home since 2011 in the Championship where the game ended in a 3-1 victory for Southampton.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Leeds haven’t won away to Southampton since 2005.

Southampton vs Leeds Prediction:

We should see an open game because the season is practically over for both clubs who are enjoying their football. Both are in good form and both are scoring goals so we do expect to see plenty of opportunities for the teams. This should make for an exciting game.

One could argue there is slightly more on the line for Leeds as they have a slim chance of a European finish if they can win their last two games and hope some teams above them can drop points.

The bottom line is that the two teams are fairly equal ahead of this game and the best choice here could be to concentrate on the goals market.

Southampton vs Leeds Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.50

Total goals (Over 2.5) at 1.53

Anytime goalscorer: Patrick Bamford at 2.20
