Southampton vs Fulham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 13th May 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St. Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

This looks like being Southampton’s last roll of the dice and they will give it everything in front of their home fans. The problem and the reality is that even if the Saints were to win here they still look very much doomed and that is because they come into this weekend six points behind 19th place with just 9 points left on the board.

The Saints continue to lose games but they are fighting all the same and that is evidenced in their last game which they ended up losing 4-3 against Nottingham Forest and almost came back for a draw. But defeats are defeats and they have lost three in a row and earned just 1 point from their last 15. At home they fare no better and have the worst record in the league indeed they have earned more points on the road (14) than at home (10) and it’s just two wins so far.

Fulham are in 10th place with 48 points and they look set to just miss out on European football next season. They can however finish in the top half and that would still be a great achievement for the Cottagers though and they are six points clear of 11th placed Chelsea however the Blues have a game in hand. Last weekend Marco Silva’s team ended a 3 game losing run by smashing five goals past relegation threatened Leicester in an enthralling game which finished 5-3. Recent away form has been poor for Fulham who have lost 4 of their last five games. It is worth noting that a win here could take the club into 9th place and past Brentford.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Southampton vs Fulham Prediction:

Southampton have the qualities to win this game but they will have a real fight on their hands and this could be the weekend that we witness the first relegation. Southampton are not winning games and that is the obvious problem. We can go back to a couple of weeks ago when they needed to beat Bournemouth at home and they looked set up for it and yet lost 1-0. This is a problem that keeps coming back for this side and it could be a problem at the weekend. Fulham are the better team and they are good value to come here and get the win and we think they will be worth backing. A certain Aleksandar Mitrovic is back after his 8 game ban for pushing the referee and he will want to put that in the past and try to get on the score sheet here. Also it may be worth backing to see a sending off in a game that is going to get tense.
