England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium
Match Preview:
Southampton have been in good form this year and have made life difficult for a whole host of opponents and it isn’t a stretch to think that the team will be confident of getting their seventh victory of the season when they host Everton at the weekend.
The Saints held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw away from home in their last game and this after falling behind. They also stunned Tottenham and won that game 3-2 another game away from home and they have drawn against Manchester City- all of these matches occurring in their last three games. So the Saints deserve a lot of respect. Can Ralph Hasenhuttl’s hard working side qualify for Europe this season? Probably not and the reason for that is that the club have drawn too many games, 11 so far is a ridiculous figure from 24 games played but there is no denying that Hasenhuttl after last season has restored his standing in the game. Even if the club finish mid table they have had a strong campaign.
Everton are getting used to life under new manager Frank Lampard and they won a very important game last weekend as they beat Leeds 3-0 at home. Everton put in one of their best performances of the season and while the club are not out of the woods, perhaps talk on their relegation can be dampened now. Form is not good for the club though who have lost 4 of their last five games but we can only judge the Toffees from Lampard’s time in charge and he has seen the club past Brentford in the FA Cup but lost out to Newcastle. The Newcastle defeat was away from home so maybe there will be some question marks on how Everton will perform on the road, because already under Lampard they look confident and very solid at home.
Playing away has been a nightmare for Everton this season and they have the third to worst record in the league winning just 6 points from a possible 33. They have conceded 5 goals in their past two away games and only 3 other teams have scored less than the club on the road.
Team News:
Southampton: Jan Bednarek will be assessed with this thigh but is expected to recover. Nathan Redmond should return from his ankle injury. Nathan Tella isn’t expected to return to the team until the end of the month. Lyanco and Alex McCarthy are out long term both have hamstring injuries.
Everton: A big blow to the club is the new injury to Yerry Mina who has a thigh injury and isn’t expected back for 8 weeks. Fabian Delph is out for another 3-4 weeks with a thigh injury. Abdoulaye Doucoure isn’t expected back until the end of the month with his groin injury. It is the same time frame for Demarai Gray as he has a hip injury. Ben Godfrey has been ruled out for 3 weeks at least with a hamstring injury.
Southampton vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season Southampton won this fixture 2-0.
Earlier in the season Everton beat Southampton 3-1.
From the last five games played at Southampton Everton has won just one game.
There is an 80% chance to see both teams to score.
Southampton vs Everton Prediction:
We should see an end to end game here because Southampton are in decent form and have absolutely nothing to lose here, they will come forward. The Saints will come with confidence too, who wouldn’t after drawing against both Manchester teams.
Perhaps on paper one could argue that Everton has the better side but they also have a slightly worrying injury list which is growing by the week. It’s also hard to be convinced by Everton on the road, yes the injection of a new manager can change that mindset but Everton were not convincing against Newcastle and the Saints represent a very hard challenge.
The market is open so there is great value to be had, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints had enough in the tank to win this game and give Everton some pause for thought. Everton will also have one eye on the relegation teams and if they drop points then even losing here wouldn’t be the end of the world for Lampard’s side.
