Match Preview:

Southampton have certainly improved under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and come into this game unbeaten in their last 2 Premier League encounters. The Saints last league game ended with an impressive 2-1 win away to Leicester and they have moved up to 16^th place. However even though the team have improved form wise they are just a single point from the relegation zone.

There was some disappointing news this week when the club were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties to Championship side Derby after the game had finished 2-2. While it may sound a little brutal at least the club will be able to fully concentrate on Premier League survival until the end of the season with no further distractions.

Everton got a much needed win last weekend when they beat Bournemouth 2-0. It was hardly a vintage display by The Toffees but at least it eased the pressure on the players and manager Marco Silva.

Everton have only won 11 points from their last 30 and would be in the bottom six on that form. The club need to get a run of matches together but this fixture looks like a tricky one. The club have lost half of their games away from home which includes poor recent form of 3 losses from their last four.

Team News:

Southampton: Ryan Bertrand is only 50/50 make this game after a lack of match fitness has delayed his return to the team. Mario Lemina could likely miss the match with a muscle strain

Everton: Phil Jagielka is Everton’s only worry as he has picked up a knock in training and is likely to miss this encounter

The last time the teams met was at Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup where Southampton knocked out Everton.

Last season Southampton beat Everton at home 4-1.

Since 2005 Everton have won at Southampton just once which was in 2015.

This is a fixture that usually produces goals - there has been just one match that finished 0-0 in the last 15 games. It will be an interesting tie given that there are two hungry managers in the dug out. Whilst The Saints have improved they have also lost their last two games at home but they will be a tough team to face for Everton and history is against the away team. Our bet will be to see both teams to score and we will look into the anytime goalscorers market. Out of all of the games this weekend this one looks one of the most difficult to call.
