Southampton vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 28th December 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton have risen it seems and on form the club would be in 6th place with 3 wins from their last 5 games. They come into this match having won their last 2 consecutive games beating Aston Villa and then more surprisingly Chelsea. In those matches they scored 5 goals.

The Premier League is being confirmed as the league where anyone can beat anyone, the exception to that rule being Liverpool for the time being, who just beat everyone. But when we think that a few weeks back Southampton lost 9-0 at home to Leicester and then beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge who had just beaten Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham away from home, everything seems possible.

So the Saints come into this game in fine form and they will be eyeing another three points. They have climbed up to 14th place but aren’t out of the woods yet and are just 3 points from the bottom three. Southampton have the worst home form picking up just 7 points all season with 2 wins from 9 but those two victories have come in their last 3 games at St Mary's.

Crystal Palace keep plugging away and whilst they are not in great form they are a difficult team to beat. The Eagles got a good win on Boxing Day after a Jordan Ayew solo goal at the end beat West Ham 2-1 and that was the teams first win since the beginning of this month.

Palace are in 9th place five points ahead of their hosts and they have won 8 points from their last 15. Away from home they have lost almost 50% of games and have just 1 win in their past five. Their last away game ended in a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle.

Team News:

Southampton: Shane Long is a doubt with a knee injury and looks set to miss this game. Yann Valery is ruled out with illness

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke is major miss and he will be out for a few weeks with a muscle injury. Scott Dann is out with the same problem. Gary Cahill looks long term with a bad knock. Patrick Van Aanholt picked up a hamstring injury but it may not be serious and he will be assessed

Southampton vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season this match ended 1-1.

In 15 years Crystal Palace have just 1 victory here which happened in 2018.

4 from the last 7 meetings have seen both teams to score.

Southampton vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

We think this match is could be very tight. Southampton are in form, Palace hate coming to St Mary's and they have an ever growing injury list. Also, Southampton have the bit between the teeth now, but with Crystal Palace, form and reasoning just never seems to make much of a difference, and therefore we will avoid backing a winner.  What we like is how Southampton have a few goals in them, and there is good value in this market for this game. If Danny Ings isn’t scoring then James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond can. They look like a dangerous and very confident team right now and goals could be the way to go.

Southampton vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
