Match Preview:
Southampton have won just one game so far this season but perhaps compared to other teams they could argue that they have had quite a tough fixture list. This has included having to face Tottenham and Manchester United which both ended in defeats conceding six goals in those games.
Now the Saints will take on another top 6 side and come into this game the underdogs despite being at home. Though the Saints lost against Manchester United they should take something from the game, it was close and they had chances themselves to get some points. The club will also believe they have the advantage of remaining at home. But are the signs creeping up on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team already who are falling down the table and come into this game in 13th place?
Chelsea recovered well from their 3-0 beating at the hands of Leeds to defeat Leicester at home by 2-1 at the weekend. Arguably though it was the Foxes that played better and Chelsea in the end could have drawn this game. One anchor they had and for sixty minutes of the game was playing with 10 men when Conor Gallagher was sent off. But the Blues recovered and the great news for them is that new signing Raheem Sterling has got on the score sheet. The England international scored both goals in the space of 16 minutes. Thomas Tuchel’s side are now in 6th place with seven points and that was Chelsea’s first victory since the opening weekend win over Everton.
Team News:
Southampton: There are no new injuries for the club ahead of this game, however Valentino Livramento is a long term absentee due to his knee and he may be out for the rest of the year.
Chelsea: Conor Gallagher is suspended for this game after his sending off last weekend, N’Golo Kante has a hamstring injury and is likely out for the next 4 weeks at least.

Southampton vs Chelsea Prediction:
Chelsea are going to be solid this season, no doubt but one has to wonder if the jury is out on their away form. The Blues squeezed past Everton on the road and needed a penalty to secure all three points. They were then beaten 3-0 at Leeds, of course one could suggest that Southampton won’t be as strong as Everton or Leeds this season but the club has played some good football already this season and been unlucky in some of their games. Chelsea are odds on favourites to win this game, but we are not sure if that represents good value as the away side.
Chelsea have a great record over the Saints in the past decade though which should be taken into account and of course last season they hammered them 6-0. Perhaps it is worth mentioning though that Chelsea have failed 3 out of the last six meetings to beat Southampton, so a 50% win rate that might be worth backing the home side on the handicap. Obviously Chelsea are the better team but they look like a team who are finding their way in the league campaign and for now look much more comfortable playing at home. We may end up seeing a surprise. As for Chelsea we should back Raheem Sterling to do the business in front of goal. Time and again we have seen centre forwards get one goal and then that has given them the confidence to score a few more and he will be up and ready for this game.
