Southampton vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 16th July 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

When you think this is the same season that Southampton lost 9-0 at home to Leicester it is a wonder that the club have been safe for several weeks and even at one point were knocking on a European position. They will miss out on Europe for next season but will still believe they can finish in the top half of the table.

At home the Saints have not fared too well losing 10 games and they actually have the rare distinction of having a better away record. Of course everyone will point to their last home game which was a fantastic 1-0 victory over Manchester City that few would have seen coming. If they can take something from that game then beating Brighton could well be a formality.

Brighton should be safe but another win would bring them the relief that they so desire. They have had really tough games lately playing both Liverpool and Manchester City, and Southampton may be welcomed, although this being an away game it could well be a tricky one for Graham Potter’s side.

Still maybe there is a bright light for the club given that they have gone their last 5 away games unbeaten. That run only takes in 1 win however as the club have drawn the other four but gaining 7 points away from their last five games and looking at the position that they are in is no mean feat and those extra points have obviously gone a long way to the clubs survival this season.

Southampton vs Brighton Prediction:

With the way Southampton have been playing recently, we have to back the home side, and with the value they carry we can also cover the draw, which should give a good element of safety.

The Saints are the better side all round and will be at home but we expect a close game. We also expect to see at least a couple of goals, and it wouldn't surprise anyone to see Danny Ings get on the scoresheet.

Southampton vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Southampton) at 1.575

Goal line (Over 2) at 1.525

Anytime goalscorer (Danny Ings) at 2.20
