Southampton vs Bournemouth: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th April 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton are almost safe from relegation and Bournemouth are confirmed safe coming into this game. The Saints have had mixed form and have gone their last two games without a win despite creating a Premier League record against Watford when Shane Long scored after 7 seconds - the fastest ever Premier League goal. The match ended 1-1.

For Southampton it’s all about their home form where they have won 3 out of their last 4 games and it is their recent home form, which means they will be playing Premier League football next season. They have beaten the likes of Wolves and Tottenham here in recent weeks.

Bournemouth have at times this season been utterly brilliant but one must wonder what motivation the club will have playing a very decent team like Southampton and being away from home with very little to play for. Is it any coincidence that the club have pulled back? Losing 3 of their last four games including Fulham last weekend when they were at home.

Just for the record Eddie Howe’s side have lost 12 of their 17 away games this season and yet have won 2 of their last 3 matches on the road so in that sense still remain quite unpredictable.

Team News:

Southampton: Stuart Armstrong has a minor hamstring problem and could play and will be assessed. Ryan Bertrand is set to miss this game with an ankle injury but hasn’t been completely ruled out. Shane Long’s knock looks minor and he should be fine to start this match. Matt Targett is pencilled to be back in for the weekend after his muscle injury

Bournemouth: Adam Smith is out with a knock. Nathaniel Clyne has a hamstring injury and there has been no update. Junior Stanislas will miss the rest of the season with his knee injury

Southampton vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Earlier this season the fixture ended 0-0.

Last season at Southampton they won 2-1.

Bournemouth have no wins at Southampton from 5 games.

Southampton vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Southampton were in a similar position a week ago when they faced Wolves at home and comfortably beat them. If they can beat quality like Wolves they should be fine here. Both teams have key players missing, some long term but the motivaion remains with the home side who have pace at home and are not afraid to attack. We don’t expect many goals but this could be a lot of ball watching for Bournemouth who look like they are on holiday mode away from home.

Southampton vs Bournemouth Betting Tips:

Southampton to beat Bournemouth at 1.91
