Sheffield Utd vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th November 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

It’s 10 games and no wins for Sheffield United who are on course to break Derby’s unwanted low points record of finishing the season with just 11 points. But if things are going to improve one would believe it would be at home. It’s possible to be at home and look at Wolves and think there could be points on the board but Wolves' form has improved lately and this could be more bad news for Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

The only joy for Sheffield United so far has come at home when they drew 2-2 with Everton and if it wasn’t for the heroics of Jordan Pickford in goal they may have walked away with all three points. As it is they are rooted to the bottom of the league and the manager’s job will surely be on the line now. A heavy loss here could speed that up. Goals have been an obvious problem with only four scored at home and two of those came in one match. Wolves are 11 points clear of their hosts and after a slow start they have improved over the past month and haven’t lost a game in their last five. They currently have a pattern of win/draw and if that was to follow this game would be a win. Last weekend they showed their strength by drawing 2-2 at home to Newcastle and their last away game finished in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. They have climbed up to 12th place and could move up a further 3 positions depending on other results around them, a win though will have the likelihood of Wolves finishing the weekend in the top half of the table and that would be a great turnaround for Gary O’ Neil’s side.

Team News:

Sheffield United: There are no new injuries for the club but the list of absentees is adding up. Chris Basham, Tom Davies, John Egan, Daniel Jebbison and Rhys Norrington-Davies are all sidelined. Anel Ahmedhodzic, Max Lowe, Oliver McBurnie and William Osula are also out but they are expected back next week.

Wolves: Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has recovered from a muscle injury and will be assessed. Hugo Bueno is expected to miss out again as he recovers from a knee injury. Pedro Neto is not expected back until next week and Joseph Hodge has been ruled out for two months due to a shoulder injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Wolves Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played each other here was in 2020 and Wolves won 2-0.

Wolves have won the last 3 meetings between the clubs.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Sheffield Utd vs Wolves Prediction:

The glimmer of hope for the Blades is that despite their problems they come into this weekend five points from safety and that isn’t the worst case scenario- their season could still be saved but they will need to start winning games at home. This isn’t something we can see this weekend, not with the way Wolves have been playing. One could have worried that the international break came at the wrong time for Wolves but they have continued to show their form and they will be a difficult opponent for Sheffield.

We do expect a close game and this is a fixture which has a success rate of under goals and we will take that on also. Hwang Hee-Chan has found great form and came through for us last weekend and he might be worth backing again to find a goal for the visitors
