Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
A Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion fixture may not conjure up the thoughts of a huge game in the Premier League but this fixture certainly will be. For Sheffield United this match may well represent their final chance of salvation even though they will most likely be relegated this season losing to a bottom 3 rival would feel like closure on their whole season.
The Blades lost their 17th league game of the season against Manchester City at the weekend although they put in quite a solid performance only losing 1-0 at the Etihad. Indeed it was such a well organised display from the bottom side that even City’s manager Pep Guardiola went as far as to say that this game was his clubs toughest of the season so far.
However with Brighton winning their game it means that Chris Wilder’s side are 13 points from safety and even 4 points from 19th place. And in 19th place reside West Bromwich Albion. One would have thought that the magic of having Sam Allardyce in charge would have pushed the club out of the bottom three but they are 9 points from safety after they drew 2-2 at home against 18th placed Fulham.
The truth is West Brom have won just 4 points from their last 15 available, keep this up and the club will be relegated. This is an important game for the Baggies and one where they really need to win and with Fulham having to play Leicester it could be possible to see Allardyce’s team go 18th with victory.
The damning facts for West Brom is that they have earned just 6 points from 30 away from home. The good news is that 5 of those points have come in their last 4 away games, so there has been some clear improvement. The clubs last away game ended in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Ben Osborn has been pencilled in to return for this game but has a knock and with ni updates given could be a doubt. Jack Robinson will be assessed after his knock. No update on Enda Stevens who was being tipped not to be out for long but has now missed the last couple of games with his calf strain.
West Bromwich Albion: No new injury concerns for the Baggies ahead of the match.
Sheffield Utd vs West Brom Head to Head:
The last time the teams played here in 2018 West Bromwich Albion won 2-1.
From the last six meetings Sheffield United has just one win.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture West Bromwich Albion won 1-0.
Sheffield Utd vs West Brom Prediction:
Here we have two clubs who have vastly underachieved this season. On one hand we have a dogged side with very little up front in Sheffield United and their lack of goals means that they are bottom of the league. On the other side is West Bromwich Albion who have a glimmer of light for survival but really need to win this game.
West Brom have to play this match like it is their most important of the season and we could go as far as to say that if they do not put in a performance and show some passion and motivation it is possible that they will be relegated if they don’t win this game, this is the one where the players have to stand up and be counted.
Sheffield Utd are rightly favourites but it's hard to back them with any confidence, therefore we will look into other markets. The bookies don't see this game having many goals, yet both teams need to be aiming for 3 points from game like this, so it could be more open than people think, therefore "goal line (Over 2)" is our main bet at very good value.
Sheffield Utd vs West Brom Betting Tips:
