Sheffield United have been nothing short of brilliant this season and they need to enjoy themselves and live in the moment because they may never perform this good in the Premier League for some time. Time after time we see newly promoted teams do so well in their first season and then suffer in their second, but onto the positives and the Blades come into this match in good form.
Who could have predicted that by Christmas Sheffield United would be in 5th place? They have 28 points and are just 4 points adrift of 4th place and Chelsea. The Blades have won their last 3 consecutive games, beating Norwich, Aston Villa and Brighton, teams all near the bottom and they will be the favourites to beat Watford also.
Chris Wilder’s side have actually won more points away from home but at Bramall Lane they still have just one loss in their last five matches which came against Newcastle.
Can Watford provide the great escape? Nigel Pearson has done what looked like the impossible before, namely with Leicester. The club pulled off a fantastic and deserved win at the weekend by beating Manchester United 2-0- that’s no mean feat for a team bottom of the league.
By beating Manchester United the Hornets won just their 2nd game of the season. Away from home the club have lost their last 3 consecutive matches with their last win coming against Norwich back in November.
