Match Preview:

Sheffield United and Newcastle will play each other early evening on Tuesday and the home side are still looking for their first win of the season.

The Blades are now 12 points from safety and it looks almost certain that they will be relegated, though the club are sticking with manager Chris Wilder through a rare act of loyalty given all the hard work he has done for the club over the years.

Sheffield United lost their 15th game of the season at the beginning of the year when they lost 2-0 against Crystal Palace. They have scored just 8 goals this season and come into this match having lost their last 3. 

But perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel for the Blades who did finally win a game this season. It was in the FA Cup and they knocked out Bristol Rovers 3-2.

Newcastle are 17 points better off than their opponents but they will feel that they are not completely out of the woods in terms of being relegated. The Magpies should be fine but with 19 points and in 15th place a few more wins under their belt would not go unwanted.

Form is not good for Steve Bruce’s team who have no wins in their last five games with their latest match ending in a 2-1 loss against Leicester. In the FA Cup they are out already losing against Arsenal 2-0 in a match that had to be settled in extra time. Away from home they have lost 3 from their last four including losing their last two on the road.

Sheffield United: Oliver McBurnie is a doubt with a knock, Jack Robinson has the same problem. Enda Stevens missed the cup tie with an unspecified problem and could be a doubt for this game. 

Newcastle: Ryan Fraser is struggling with his groin but will be assessed. Jamal Lewis has a knee injury and is a doubt. Allan Saint-Maximin has had the coronavirus and is being pencilled in to return for this match but may be rested.

We all know how poor Sheffield United’s season has been so far but their recent FA Cup win must have given a boost to the squad even if some changes were made. It is a feel good factor that they will play in the 4th round of the FA Cup. Plus of course the Blades are at home.

Newcastle are a decent side but woefully inconsistent and now they have just been knocked out of the FA Cup, it’s fair to say that they come into this match a little rattled. The value here could be to back the home side to win their first game of the season, although this is a risk there just seems to be a little more confidence coming from their camp, and it doesn’t feel too good based on recent form to back the away win. It is a risk no doubt given how poor the Blades results have been so far, but using a "0.0 asian handicap" we can cover the draw with a refund if they don't quite manage the win.
