Sheffield Utd vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st October 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Last season Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag had to deal with the fall out from Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo left the club, in this season it is rising star Jadon Sancho and these arguments which seem to spill over into the media are overshadowing the football on the pitch. Manchester United have had a poor start by their standards and yet they are six points behind Manchester City but they are yet to find any type of consistency. It’s two wins from their last three games but losing at home to Crystal Palace days after dumping the same side out of the EFL Cup was not in the script. The last game before the internationals did at least end in victory as Ten Hag’s side beat Brentford 2-1. United come into this game in 10th place and that is a bad place to be for this club.

Sheffield United have played some good football but find themselves in bottom place with 1 point. It’s seven losses from 8 games with just the one point earned at home to Everton. They come into this game on a four game losing run with defeats against Fulham, West Ham, Newcastle and Tottenham. With 22 goals conceded that is currently the most in the league and they have managed to score just six goals, that isn’t going to bode well when you have to now face Manchester United. Of course the Manchester side have had troubles of their own this season so this could be an interesting game that isn’t straight forward.

Team News:

Ben Osborn is close to coming back but has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. Rhys Norrington-Davies has fitness issues and is expected to miss out again.

Manchester United: Casemiro is out and not due back until the end of the month with an ankle injury. Amad Diallo is out long term with a knee injury and Lisandro Martinez is also out with a foot injury. Sergio Reguilon may return and will be assessed, Luke Shaw is out with a muscle injury. Sheffield Utd vs Man Utd Head to Head:

The clubs last played each other in this fixture three years ago and Manchester United won 3-2.

Manchester United have won 9 of the last 11 meetings.

The last four meetings have all seen over 2.5 goals.

Sheffield Utd vs Man Utd Prediction:

Sheffield United as expected have a poor record over United although they did in fact win the last meeting which took place almost three years ago at Old Trafford, winning that game 2-1. The games even though there is a gulf in quality have contained goals and both teams to score markets have been successful too. We expect to see an end to end game and at this stage of the season the Blades need to go for it, they need to own their home and become difficult to beat or they will go down with a few months to spare.

We believe that Manchester United will just about have too much for the Blades, yes they have their own problems but at the end of the day they are facing the worst team in the league so far. There is a lot of quality in this United side and we have been keeping an eye on Marcus Rashford who has been looking sharper as the weeks go on and he should be one to watch here. The knives are still out for Ten Hag but he will be out to blunt the Blades on this occasion.
