England Premier League
Thursday 17th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane
Match Preview:
Chris Wilder must be looking over his shoulder now with the recent news that Slaven Bilic has lost his job as manager of West Bromwich Albion. Sheffield United have performed worse this season than the Baggies and history tells us once one manager loses his job the floodgates usually open.
The Blades will have a tough job on their hands to help their manager stay in his job as they face Manchester United on Thursday evening. They are at home but that hasn’t been a factor this season as the club are still searching for their first victory of the season.
Sheffield United have lost a staggering 11 of their first 12 games with 1 draw and the writing does look on the wall for Wilder. The only slight encouraging sign for the Blades is they are not losing by huge scores and have let in on average just less than 2 goals per game. The Blades come into this home game having lost their last 3 here.
Manchester United have been frustrating this season and yet have shown glimpses of brilliance too, as they come into this fixture in 9th place. It would be easy to see that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have started poorly but the fact is that they are 5 points behind the league leaders and have a game in hand.
What has saved United’s season so far has not been their home form but their away wins and they have a 100% record, played 5 and won 5. United’s last away match ended in a 3-1 win over West Ham and last weekend they held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
United could go into the top six with victory and they are unbeaten in their last five games earning 13 points.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Kean Bryan has a calf injury and has been ruled out for at least a month. Oliver McBurnie is only 50/50 to make the game due to his shoulder injury.
Manchester United: Edinson Cavani should be back for this match after his knock though there has been no confirmation as of yet. Marcos Rojo is very close to returning after fitness issues but remains 50/50.
Sheffield Utd vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season this match ended in a six goal thriller in a game that finished 3-3.
Manchester United have scored 8 goals past Sheffield United in the last three meetings.
In the last 15 years the teams have met five times with Manchester United winning 4 and one draw.
Sheffield Utd vs Man Utd Prediction:
Manchester United may not be firing on all cylinders and there has been a lot of focus on Solskjaer as a result but is any club? Look at Manchester City for example but there has been zero criticism of Pep Guardiola.
Manchester United seem to be taking everything in their stride playing with freedom especially away from home. But one thing lacking is a sense of urgency, it is almost as if United need to go a goal down in order to play and that is a worry. It gives Sheffield United a glimpse here but honestly we believe this encounter will be Sheffield United’s 12th defeat of the season, when you see the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and possibly a returning Edinson Cavani that is too much quality.
The Premier League is so competitive that the home side will get their chances and have opportunities but we expect the Red Devils to power through in the end and record their seventh victory of the season so far.
